Nicholas Lee Houchin

Nicholas Lee Houchin, age 27, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away December 27, 2010.  He was born September 10, 1983 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

He graduated from Calallen High School with academic honors, played basketball and ran track.  He loved to go fishing with his dad and brothers, enjoyed music and spending time on the Frio River. At the time of his death Nick was working for C & J Energy Services and loved his job.  Nick had a heart of gold and was loved very deeply by his family and will be missed until we see him again.

Nicholas was preceded in death by his grandmother, Clara Miller; paternal grandparents, Katie and Zelner Houchin.

He is survived by his parents, Zelner and Terry Houchin; brothers, Jacob and Adam Houchin; maternal grandfather, Ron Miller.

Visitation will be on Thursday, December 30, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, December 31, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Elizabeth Marion Haas Cherry, age 75, passed away on December 27th, 2010, after a lengthy battle with cancer.  She was born August 3, 1935 in Umatilla, Florida to Marion and Frank Haas.  She graduated from Mt. Dora High School and Florida State University with a degree in Education.  She also graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a degree in Religious Education.  She taught several years in Florida and also in Texas with the Odem-Edroy I.S.D.

She was a member of Tuloso-Midway Baptist Church.  She was very involved with missions work through her church including several mission trips.  She was a past associational WMU director.  She loved working with children through Sunday School, GA’s, Vacation Bible School and Training Union.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Cherry; three children, Patricia Cherry Summers and husband Micheal, Debbie Cherry Snow and husband Scott, and Stephen Cherry.  She is also survived by four grandchildren, Micheal and Matthew Summers, Quinlan Kennedy and Jaquelyn Cherry.  She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Wright and husband Kenneth and her brother, Henry Haas; several nieces and nephews from both sides of the family.

Visitation will be from 2 P.M. until 8 P.M. with the family present from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Tuloso-Midway Baptist Church with Brother John McAlister and Brother Micheal Summers officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sinton Cemetery in Sinton, Texas. 

Mary Louise “Love” Cox

Mary Louise “Love” Cox, age 64, of Corpus Christi, Texas went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 19, 2010.

She was born March 3, 1946 in Robstown, Texas to Gussie Alexander Pack, Sr. and Johanna Louise Henrietta Brand.

 

Anyone who knew Mary was blessed by her loving and outgoing personality.  She was truly the heart and soul of her family.  She will be “Love” forever.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Milton Orville Pack.

 

She is survived by her husband, James Clyde Cox, Sr.; children, Robert Eugene Cox, Melanie Camille Garsee, James Clyde Cox, Jr.; sisters, Laura Loving, Betty Jo Townsend, Katherine Hocker, Violet Mae Pafford, Darlene Ann McCarter, Ruby Lee Stech, Norma Lee Patterson; brothers, Gussie Alexander Pack, Jr., Alton Orville Pack, John Douglas Pack, William Orville Pack,; six grandchildren.

 

Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

 

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Robert Simmons officiating.

 

Interment will follow in the Robstown Memorial Park. 

Matthew Thomas Whetstone

Matthew Thomas Whetstone, 38, of Corpus Christi, Texas, well loved son of Sheree Zonkel and step-father, Don Zonkel, went home to be with his Lord, Wednesday morning, December 15, 2010.  He was born September 29, 1972 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

He graduated from Calallen High School in 1991, earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas, and taught school in Denton, Texas and the surrounding area for 15 years.

He is survived by his mom, Sheree (Don); his two children, Gavin and Kendra and their mother, Michelle Whetstone; his sister, Lisa (Brandon); three brothers, Timothy, Christopher and Sean; his maternal grandparents, Marsha and Norman Whetstone; many nieces, nephews, aunts and friends.

We love you Matt.  You have found peace with your Lord, and we will see you again for a joyous reunion.

Visitation will be from 2 P.M. until 8 P.M. with the family present from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. on Monday, December 20, 2010 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Micah Davidson officiating.  Burial will follow in Memory Gardens. 

Janice Ruth Atkins Cox

Janice Ruth Atkins Cox of Spring, TX passed away on December 14, 2010 with her family by her side. She was born on January 21, 1928 in Ingleside, TX and was a long time resident of Corpus Christi. Her parents were Augustus Floyd and Lottie Pollard Atkins.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Minor Bartley Cox, infant son, Minor Douglas Cox and her parents. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Lois Atkins Loftin and brother, Augustus Atkins, Jr.

She is survived by her sister, Marie Waters (Merle) and her brother, Marvin Atkins; children, Ronnie Cox (Alma), Kathleen Moore (Ron) and Wesley Cox (Diane); grandchildren, Neal Cox (Dana), Justin Wood (Dacie), Gail Brettmann Moore (Michael), Ryan Cox and great grandchildren Jace, Cami, Tyler and Courtney. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their children.

Jan retired from Southwestern Bell after 37 years. She was a lifetime member of AT&T Pioneers. She enjoyed cooking for her family, traveling, reading, watching TV, sports, but most of all she loved her family.

There will be a graveside service held on Monday 12/20/2010 at 1:00 P.M. at Robstown Cemetery officiated by Rev. Merle S. Waters.

Honorary pallbearers are Neal, Justin and Ryan.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make a donation to the American Cancer Society in her name.
