Charlotte M. Byerly, age 83, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away Tuesday morning, March 15, 2011.

She was born May 6, 1927 in San Patricio, Texas to Hugh and Elizabeth McCown.

She was a fourth generation Texan and descendant of the original San Patricio colonists. Charlotte graduated as valedictorian of her class from Mathis High School in 1944. She also attended Incarnate Word College, Southwest Texas State and Texas A & I University. In 1946 she married the love of her life, Maurice Ray “Snooky” Byerly at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in San Patricio, Texas. They were married for 49 1/2 years and raised three children together. She taught school for over 30 years. The first two at Violet and the remainder at St. John’s School in Robstown. Charlotte was very involved at St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church where she had many friends over the years. She was involved in many civic and religious organizations throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Maurice Byerly, her parents, her siblings, Marie, J.H., Harold, Orville, Irene, Inez and Paul.

She leaves behind her two sons, Daniel Byerly and James (Jennifer) Byerly; daughter, Mary Katherine Davis; sisters-in-law, Elaine McCown and Alma Phillips; grandchildren, Shawn (Colleen) Byerly, Kerry (Donna) Byerly, Bridget (Toby) Smith, Bryan Davis, Sharla Davis, Jennifer (Jimmy) Willden, Megan (Tre) Mackey, James Ryan (Roxanne) Byerly, Allison Byerly; great grandchildren, Kelly, Kaitlin, Jacob, Casey, Kyle, Kendall, Riley, Kate, Dominic, Kylan, Kaylem, Peyton; great great granddaughter, Madison Rae Byerly.

The Rosary will be recited on Friday. March 18, 2011 at 7:00 P.M. at St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Morgan Rowsome as celebrant.

Interment will follow in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in San Patricio, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Kerry Byerly, Bryan Davis, Mike McCown, Jacob Byerly, James Ryan Byerly and Jimmy Willden.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jessie Laing, Richard Magee, Sammy Maldanado and all of her nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church.

Mary Leo Gates

Gates, Mary

Mary Leo Gates, 94, of Corpus Christi, Texas went to be with the Lord on March 14, 2011. She was born July 15, 1916 in the Sunshine area of Corpus Christi, Texas to Simeon and Maude Mae Brunson Roper. Mrs. Gates graduated from Corpus Christi High School, was a bookkeeper for her husband in his real estate business, and was a charter member of Annaville Baptist Church where she was an Awana leader for 16 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Gates, her daughter, Mary Fayne Gardner, her daughter-in-law, Frances Gates, two brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her son, Larry Gates of Mobile, Alabama; her daughter, Randy Sue Wood and her husband Courtney of Houston, Texas; her son-in-law, Don Gardner of Bryan, Texas; seven grandchildren, Shannon Wagoner, Travis Gates, Gates Gardner, Jill Gardner, Jayne Wood, Symmie Dark and Meredith Trammell; 13 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10 A.M. until 8 P.M. with the family present from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. Friday, March 18, 2011 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Annaville Baptist Church with Brother Robert Simmons and Brother Jess Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make contributions to Refuge of Hope at Annaville Baptist Church.

Evelyn Helen Marshbank

Evelyn Helen Marshbank, age 81, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away March 8, 2011.

 She was born October 21, 1929 in Alice, Texas to Gus and Lucy Schumann.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, J.R. Schumann, a sister, Nadine Schumann Todnam and her husbands, Fred Aldrich and Harry Marshbank.

 She is survived by her brothers, Richard “Mack” (Hattie) Schumann, Louis (Gail) Schumann, Leroy Ed (Carole) Schumann; sister, Deborah Kay Schumann McElroy.

 Visitation will be on Thursday, March 10, 2011 from 1:00 to 7:00 P.M. with the family present from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

 Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jeffrey Thompson officiating.

 Interment will be in the Robstown Memorial Park.

Duane Clinton Bull

Duane Clinton Bull, 63, of Calallen, Texas, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2011 at his home after a long illness.  He was born November 7, 1947 in Kingsville, Texas to

David Clinton Bull and Juanita Wilson Bull.  He was employed by Celanese Research Center for 21 years, attended River Hills Baptist Church, loved activities with his family and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his father, David Clinton Bull.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Peggy L. Bull of Calallen, Texas; his sons, Brady D. (Kathie) Bull and Ryan D. Bull all of Calallen, Texas; his mother, Juanita Wells of Azle, Texas; his sister, Patricia (Herb) Tilley of Azle, Texas; his brothers, Ronnie (Caroline) Bull of Bolingbrook, Illinois, Danny (Darla) Bull of Fort Worth, Texas, and Barry (Carol) Bull of Garland, Texas; one grandson, Wyatt Bull of Calallen, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1 P.M. until 8 P.M. with the family present from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Monday, March 7, 2011 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at River Hills Baptist Church with Brother Bill Simmons officiating.  Burial will follow in Restland Cemetery in Bishop, Texas.

Those who wish may make contributions to River Hills Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
