Renee Matchett

Matchett, Joan

Renee Matchett, age 61, of Mathis, Texas passed away July 1, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 23, 1950 in Cameron, Texas to Denson Reginald Tindall and Joan Tindall. She was preceded in death by her father.

Renee was a 4-H leader, member of Grace United Methodist Church, and a

member of Northwest Business Association. She received the Small Business Owner of the Year Award and was a member of the first graduating class of the Travel and Tourism Industry. She exemplified strong leadership in the travel business and retail sector. She owned and operated Litton Travel and Treasures with her daughter Julie and was involved in various activities in the Northwest community. Litton Travel and Treasures was voted Best of the Best for several years. Her passion was traveling with her family. She was a very loving mother, daughter, wife, grandmother, sister, and aunt to all.

Renee is survived by her husband, David Allen Matchett; daughters, Julie Painter Tilton and Trisha Painter Plagens; sons-in-law, Scott Evan Tilton and Jeffrey Wayne Plagens; five grandchildren, Chase Devon Willis, Ellie Makae Tilton, Olivia Ryan Tilton, Abby Elizabeth Plagens, Miley Ann Plagens; sisters, Lisa Ann Tindall and Laurie Beth Tindall; mother, Joan Tindall; a beloved niece. She was the daughter-in-law of Nelda Matchett and the late Tommie Lee Matchett, Sr. of Victoria, Texas.

Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Grace United Methodist Church with The Rev. Stan Whites officiating.

Honorary pallbearers are Scott Tilton, Jeff Plagens, Chase Willis, Tommie Matchett, Jr., Bill Salge, Chris Salge, Tex Tilton, and James Mahan.

In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Bob King

King, Bob

Bob King, 79, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011. He was born September 14, 1931 in Agua Dulce, Texas to Ivan C. and Ruby Mae Hartsfield King. Bob served in the U. S. Air Force in Korea, was a farmer and owned Robstown Grain and King and Son Elevators from 1950 to 1995. He coached a farmer’s baseball team in the 1960’s, and was a tie down calf roper in rodeos for many years (1947-1962). Bob was a member of First Baptist Church in Robstown for many years where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member and RA counselor. He was presently a member of Calallen Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jonna King and his son, Jeff King.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie King of Robstown, Texas; his son, Scott (Stephanie) King of Orange Grove, Texas; his daughter, LaRae (Larry) Martin of Calallen, Texas; his foster-sons, Randy Helms of Corpus Christi, Texas and Tommy (Brandi) Burleson of Orange Grove, Texas; his step-daughters, Jenni (Brad) Brown of College Station, Texas, Linda (Steve) Boyer of Porter, Texas and Cheryl Ellis of Shertz, Texas; his sister, LaRue (Jim) Shanahan of Frisco, Texas; his grandchildren, Ashley, Amber, Coleman, Lason, Luke (Connie), Brittany, Tyler, Trace, Tripp, Michaelle, Lane, Marci (Sam), Sharon (Brandon), Kim (Adam), Bonnie, Chris (Dannielle) and Emily; his great grandson, Knox.

Visitation will be from 1 P.M. until 8 P.M. with the family present from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. Thursday, June 30, 2011at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, July 1, 2011 at Calallen Baptist Church with Bro. Jack Willoughby officiating. Burial will follow in Robstown Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Tom Jackson, Weldon Martin, LaFon Denney, Bob Whitley, Jerry Pavelka and Ben Otahal.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Dulin, Lynn Whitlock, Clarence Jauer, Tino Longoria, Cruz Favela, Royce Allen and Gary Roseberg.
