Mari Bess “Susan” Pohlers

Mari Bess “Susan” Pohlers, 50, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2012 after a long illness. She was born February 17, 1962 in Alice, Texas. She was a faithful homemaker and loving mother who enjoyed her family, flowers and kittens.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Nadine Copeland.

She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Alan W. Pohlers of Corpus Christi, Texas; her daughters, Amber (William) Silva and Heather Hentz of Corpus Christi, Texas; a grandson, Tristen Edgemon of Corpus Christi, Texas; her father, Earl (Bessie) Laws of Lockhart, Texas; her brother, Ray (Carol) Laws of Refugio, Texas.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.

Jackie Leo Haines

Jackie Leo Haines, 89, of Odem and formerly of Vanderbilt, Texas, passed away on March 22, 2012 in Corpus Christi.

Jack was born on November 27, 1922 to Dona Mae and Lee Otis Haines in Wilson, Oklahoma. He was married to Rosa Quick Haines and celebrated 70 years of marriage in October 2011.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Donna (Art) Eckman of Atlanta, Georgia and Carole (Jim) Kolle of Inez, Texas; sons, David (Johnnie) of Cypress, Texas, Randy (Shelley) of Calallen, Texas and John of Waller, Texas. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one sister, Wanda (Charles) Probert of Ardmore, OK; numerous nieces and nephews; and a very special adopted family, Senay (Clarence) Payne. Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant son; a daughter-in-law and 6 brothers and sisters.

Jack served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corp and worked 39 years for Mobil Oil before his retirement.

The family will receive friends on Monday, March 26, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Sawyer-George Funeral Home, 12497 Leopard Street, Corpus Christi.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church, 307 W. Turner Street, Odem, Texas. Burial will be at Odem Evergreen Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Shane, Barret and Clay Kolle, Jeremy and Jordan Haines, Brandon Guthrie and Joshua Haines.

Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, Christine Eckman, Kara Eckman Mecke, Kimber-Lea Wiggins and Camryn Haines.

The family extends a special Thank You to the staff at TriSun Care Center on Fortune Drive for the loving care they have given our parents. Their compassion and professionalism are greatly appreciated and will be forever remembered.

As a loving father, grand father, great grandfather and friend, we will cherish all that Jack taught us, the values he stood for and his eternal faith in God. He will be greatly missed, but he will always be in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, or to honor the memory of Jack Haines, the family has requested donations be made to enAble of GA, an agency founded in1979 by a group of concerned parents, seeking a place in their community that could provide a nurturing home and quality support services for their adult children with developmental disabilities. enAble provides services to Christine Eckman, beloved autistic granddaughter of Jack Haines.

Roy F. Slayton

Roy F. Slayton, 94, of Alice, Texas, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2012 in an Alice hospital. He was born February 18, 1918 in Haslet, Texas to Ernest O. and Carrie Orlean Sanders Slayton. He was a U.S. Army-Air Corps veteran of WWII and Korea, and was self-employed in the pest control business. Roy was a member of the Baptist Church and was an avid bowler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, W. J. Slayton, Grover Slayton and Ray Slayton and his sister, Mamie Slayton Messer.

He is survived by his brothers, Homer Slayton of Corpus Christi, Texas and Warren Slayton of Alice, Texas; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 30, 2012 at Tuloso-Midway Baptist Church with the burial to follow at 11:00 A.M. at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.

Penny (Hamilton) Dye

Penny (Hamilton) Dye, age 59, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away and went to be with the Lord on March 21, 2012. She was born on August 27, 1952 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Edward and Sarah Hamilton. Penny was a graduate of Roy Miller High School in 1970.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, LeRoy Dye of Corpus Christi, Texas; her daughter, Kelly Dye of New York City, New York; her sisters, Pamela Savis of Corpus Christi, Texas, Mary Dawn (Tim) West of Portland, Texas and Sally (Johnny) Whitworth of Corpus Christi, Texas; her brother, Larry Mers of Houston, Texas; her mother-in-law, Faye Burris of Loudon, Tennessee; her brother-in-law, Malcolm (Connie) Dye of Nederland, Texas; her sisters-in-law, Connie (Jack) Bereman of Waller, Texas and Carolyn (Carl) Bingham of Loudon, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family present will be from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Friday, March 23, 2012 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Rick Milby and Pastor Danny Isom officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be her nephews and a close family friend.

Mary Lee Bramblett

Mary Lee Bramblett, 89, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away Monday, March 19, 2012. She was born June 6, 1922 in Robstown, Texas to Ewin and Bertha South Reagan. She was a member of Tuloso-Midway Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; and a grandson, Travis Blackmon.

She is survived by her husband, Damond Bramblett of Corpus Christi; her son, Darrell Bramblett of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Carolyn (Perry) Blackmon of Corpus Christi, Texas; a sister, Joyce Brooker of Colorado; 6 grandchildren, David, Jimmy, Cody and April Blackmon, Jeremy and Corey Bramblett; 7 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. Wednesday, March 21, 2012 in Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 A.M. Thursday, March 22, 2012 in Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John McAllister officiating. Burial will follow in the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery at 11:00 A.M.
