James William Walton

Walton, Jim

James William Walton, 71, passed away on Saturday, April 27th after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Jim graduated from Carroll High School in 1960. He married Marjorie Nell Moore on June 3rd 1963. They were married just shy of 50 years. Jim worked for Suntide Refinery, later known as Koch Refinery for 30 years before retiring and beginning a new career at El Paso Gas. He retired from El Paso gas after 10 years. Jim was a faithful member of Riverside church of Christ for nearly 40 years where he was the song leader for many of those years. Jim was a mirror image of Jesus and knew how to treat people with dignity and respect. We wish to give a special thanks to Erin Imhoff, Tommy Haley and Melony Brittain for always being there to help with Jim and his wife Marjorie. He is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie Walton; sons, Clint Walton and wife, Gloria, Clifton Russell Walton and wife, Victoria and James Melton Walton. Grandson, Lance Holt Walton and granddaughter, Laura Lynn Walton.

Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will follow in the Seaside Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Haley, Steven Brittain, Carlos Ponce, Ray Alaniz, Rogelio Granado, Gary Thomas.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riverside church of Christ Youth, in care of Riverside church of Christ and placing Youth in the memo section.

Betty Dean Curry

Betty Dean Curry, 86, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away Friday, April 26, 2013. She was born August 29, 1926 in Lockhart, Texas. Betty retired from the Woodsboro I.S.D. where she had served as the secretary to the Superintendent of Schools. She was a member of Arlington Heights Church of Christ, Town Hall and Christian Women.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mamie Mayo Bluhm and Ernest Bluhm, Sr.; her husband, Billy Ray Curry; her brothers, Ernest Bluhm, Jr. and Garland Bluhm, Sr.; and her sister, Dorcille Balzer.

She is survived by her daughters, Raydene (John) Shotts, Luanne (Tom) Morris and Tami Wright; her grandchildren, James (Katie) Shotts, Aaron (Katie) Shotts and Steven (Melanie) Shotts; Billy (Taylor) Ashby, Robby and Kara Ashby, Summer, Shauna and Sierra Wright; 3 great grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty Dean was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, GiGi, aunt and friend who will be dearly missed by many.

Visitation with the family present will be from 3 P.M. until 6 P.M. Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, April 29, 2013 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with David Srygley and Dale Mathis officiating. Burial will follow in Robstown Memorial Park.

Pablo “Paul Wall” Flores, IV

Pablo “Paul Wall” Flores, IV, 25, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away from injuries received in an automobile accident. He was born December 11, 1987 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He graduated from Calallen High School in 2006 where he played on the football team that went to state and the baseball team that won the state title in 2005. He was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated in the top 20 in his class. He then graduated with honors from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2010 where he was on the Dean’s List all four years and was in Who’s Who Among University Students. He was a member of St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church and had helped with construction for Habitat for Humanity. He was a friend to everyone and his smile lit up the room. He is loved and will be missed by all of his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Pablo Flores, Jr. and Pablo Villafranca, Sr.

He is survived by his parents, Mary Ann and Paul Flores, III of Corpus Christi, Texas; his brothers, Andrew Matthew Flores and Christopher Michael Flores of Corpus Christi, Texas; his sister, Anastasia Victoria Flores of Corpus Christi, Texas; his grandparents, Rosa Villafranca of Corpus Christi, Texas and Refugia Flores of Banquete, Texas; uncles and aunts, Billy and Georgia Major, Rudy and Brenda Salazar, Paul Villafranca, Michael and Elaine Villafranca, James and Mona LaCour, Daniel Castillo, Juan Castillo, Fred and Susie Molina, Raul and Doris Flores, Abel and Ada Flores and Sally Selina Flores; numerous cousins.

The Rosary will be recited at 7 P.M. Friday, April 26, 2013 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 A.M. Saturday, April 27, 2013 at St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Morgan Rowsome as celebrant. Burial will follow in Robstown Memorial Park.

Casimiro Benavidez III

Benavidez

Casimiro Benavidez III, age 63, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on April 21, 2013 after a decade long battle with cancer.

He was born on August 9, 1949 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Cas is a veteran of the Viet Nam War, where he served in-country, first as a medical corpsman and then as a surgical technician. Upon return to civilian life, his passion for helping others continued as a surgical tech at Spohn Memorial Hospital. He then transitioned into Renal Dialysis, eventually going to CCSU and earning his Bachelors Degree in Psychology and Nursing. Cas worked primarily in dialysis for the rest of his career.

Cas was an avid Harley Davidson rider. He proudly rode with his brother’s in the Viet Nam Vets M/C for 29 years. This group of brothers is bonded by history, and united by principles to help build a better future for all veterans and their families.

He is survived by his mother, Rosa (Harry) Campos; father, Casimiro Benavidez II; four siblings, Lisa (Erick) Montez, Leticia (Rolland) Tenerias, Mario and Marcos Benavidez; two sons, Casimiro Benavidez IV (Kristie) and Ernest Kristopher (Lana) Benavidez. He will also be missed by his four grandchildren, Cassandra, Shadow, Kyea, and Casimiro (Beanie) Benavidez V; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and in-laws.

He was a loving and caring son, father, and grandfather.

The Rosary will be recited on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 4:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Following the Rosary a visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment with full military honors will be at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.

Estelle Sawyer

Sawyer, Estelle

Estelle Sawyer went home to be with the Lord on April 17, 2013. She was born August 9, 1939 in Corpus Christi, Texas and lived here her entire life. The oldest of five children, Estelle worked from the age of 15 to the age of 71 when she retired from her last position with CCISD. She was the most exemplary, organized and professional of secretaries and took great pride in her work. As a teenager, she was first runner-up in the state typing competition. She played the piano and the guitar and loved music and dancing. She was a member of the board of directors of the Boys Club of Corpus Christi for many years. Estelle lived a full and beautiful life making friends with everyone she met and keeping up with all of them by phone, Email and texting when she could not see them in person. She is and will be most deeply missed by all her family and friends. It is a sad day for us but she will bring a new light to Heaven.

She was preceded in death by her father, Reyes P. Perez and a grandson, Dalton Gray Ilseng.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Gerald “Jerry” Sawyer of Corpus Christi, Texas; her son, Gerald Gray Sawyer, Jr. of Dallas, Texas; her daughter, Rhonda Sawyer Ilseng (Jeff) of Corpus Christi, Texas; her grandchildren, Ashley, Amber and Grayson Ilseng; her mother, Eustolia Perez of Corpus Christi, Texas; her sisters, Mary Louise Russell (Durrell) of Grandville, Michigan, Gloria Schulz (Russ) of Blue Springs, Missouri and Rose Marie Ward (Bill) of Austin, Texas; her brother, R. P. Perez, Jr. (Yolanda) of Corpus Christi, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 2 P.M. until 7 P.M. with the family present from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

A celebration of life will be held at Noon, Monday, April 22, 2013 at Bay Area Fellowship, 7451 Bay Area Drive with Pastor Bil Cornelius officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, April 22, 2013 at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
