Louis E. Petru

Louis E. Petru, 89 passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2013.

Louis was born on January 8, 1924 in Corpus Christi to Edward and Angelina Petru.

Mr. Petru served in the Army Air Corps during WW II in the European Theatre in France. He was a founding member of St. Peter Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church. Louis and Dorothy volunteered many years to St. Peter’s activities. Louis retired from Gas Compressors, Inc. in 1984. He enjoyed traveling, gardening and working crossword puzzles. He and Dorothy handmade many rosaries.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Godfrey and Joe, and sister, Cecelia.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Marie Foerster; four sons, Ernie (Davie) Petru, Danny (Donna) Petru, Jerry Petru and Eddie Petru; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward (Margaret) Petru and Henry Petru; three sisters, Edith, Angeline and Lillian; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the care givers; Vanessa, Cassie and Cindy.

Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 with a rosary being recited at 7:00 PM at the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at St. Peter, Prince of the Apostle Catholic Church.

Burial will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.

Frankie C. Newkirk

Newkirk, Frankie

Frankie C. Newkirk, age 88, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away October 24, 2013. She was born December 7, 1924 in Plain Dealing, Louisiana.

Frankie was a member of Arlington Heights Church of Christ for the last twenty years and was employed with Basin Industrial X-Ray and a receptionist for several doctors in the Corpus Christi area.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Essie Carson, Hoyt and Hazel Bobbitt.

Frankie is survived by her children, Bobby Newkirk, Judy (Stephen) Worsham, Marion (Kathryn Ann) Newkirk; brother, John (Eileen) Bobbitt; nephews, Mike, Sean, Brian, Kelly; grandchildren, Terry, Dave, Eric, Carla, Lori, Tracy, Stacy; twelve great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Monday, October 28, 2013 from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with David Srygley officiating.

Interment will follow in the Robstown Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the New Century Hospice.

Bonnie Madge Sturgill

Bonnie Madge Sturgill, age 86, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away October 23, 2013.

She was born in Joplin, Missouri on October 31, 1926.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Sturgill and a daughter-in-law, Alice K. Sturgill; son-in-law, Bobby L. Ward.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Ward of Corpus Christi, Texas; son, Robert C. (Brenda Ray M.D.) Sturgill of Henrico, Virginia; grandchildren, Charlotte M. Sturgill, Laura L. Staten, Robert L. Ward; great grandchildren, Jeremiah C. Staten, Justice N. Staten, Elizabeth H. Staten, Samantha M. Staten.

Memorial Services will be conducted on Monday, October 28, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel.

“Sonny” Tony Lewis Heaton, Jr.

“Sonny” Tony Lewis Heaton, Jr., 53 of Corpus Christi passed away suddenly on October 21, 2013 after a brief illness.

Sonny was born on July 22, 1960 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He graduated from Flour Bluff High School and attended Texas A & I University, Kingsville. He then joined his parents in business at Heaton Cotton Company. Later he worked with High Plains Bagging Company. Recently, he went on to form Heaton Ag Services.

He was an active member for many years in the Nueces County Jr. Livestock Show and Sale to include being Superintendent of the Goat Committee from 2004 to 2010. Sonny always supported the children of the community. For many years he played Santa for the Wood River community, judge for the local swim team, coached his children’ s sports and was a part of booster clubs for all activities his children were involved in. He was also an active member of the Texas Cotton Ginners Association.

Some of his favorite pastimes also included hunting and fishing with his family and friends.

Sonny loved to cook and cater for his family and his friends. He cooked competitively with Gary Criswell on their team, Burning Memories. They won many awards over the years to include Buc Days Overall Champion in 2007.

He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly Houghton Heaton.

Sonny is survived by and will be greatly missed by his four children, Kari, Krista, Kaycee, and Kirby; his parents, Tony and Erma Heaton; sister, Becky Heaton Payne and husband Cecil; and his loving companion and best friend, Ann Huddelston. He is also survived by his in laws Benny and Joyce Houghton; brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Gayle Houghton along with numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sawyer George Funeral Home on Thursday, October 24, 2013.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2013 at Grace United Methodist Church with The Rev. Stan Whites officiating.

Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery at 4607 FM 1889, Robstown, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Gary Criswell, Calvin Kidwell, Sam Keach, Bruce Franklin, Ben Otahal, Sam Colella, Hayden Franklin, and David Downing.

The family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and staff at Spohn Shoreline Hospital for their special care they gave to him and his family. A special thanks to Dr. Emille Salloum and Dr. Maggy Muniz for all the love and special care they provided.

Ursula Inge Holland


Ursula Inge Holland 69, passed away Sunday, October 20, 2013 after a long battle with cancer. Everyone who knew her admired her strength and bravery during this time. She was born June 25, 1944 to Bruno and Charlotte Schmidt in Meissen, Germany. She married Norman Lee Holland on May 15, 1962 and subsequently moved to the United States settling in the Sandia, Texas area after residing a short time in Crossett, Arkansas. Ursula loved music, dancing, her family, and traveling.


Ursula is survived by two daughters, Anita Rogers (Randy) and Deana Cline (James); three grandchildren, Corey Holland (Katie), Thomas Rogers, and Katelyn Rogers; one brother, Lutz Schmidt; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years and her parents.


A Memorial Service for her will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church, 1205 E. San Patricio St., Mathis, Texas with Pastor Marcia Kline officiating. In lieu of flowers donations to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center or the cancer research foundation of your choice is encouraged.
