Lennis Ross

Ross, Lennis

Lennis Ross, a great American, good man, husband and father went to join his wife Margaret and their son Dennis on January 30, 2014 at the age of 96. Lennis was born in Center, Texas and spent most of his life in Corpus Christi working at Sun Tide Oil. He joined the United States Army, making the rank Sergeant, Troop “C”, 12th Calvary. He had great stories of riding horseback from Brownsville, Texas to Deming, New Mexico on military maneuvers. During World War II he served in the Pacific theatre where he was wounded twice and earned a Purple Heart along with several other medals. He and his wife were enthusiastic Calallen High School sports fans and he was very involved with students including the football and baseball teams. He lived in Kerrville, Texas since 2005 to be closer to family. He was loved for his stories, quick smile and perseverance through hard times.

He is survived by grandchildren, Craig Ross and DeAnn Ross, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin one hour before the funeral service.

Family and friends are invited to the funeral service which will be conducted at 10 A.M. Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Michele Lott officiating.

Burial will be private at Robstown Memorial Park.

The family thanks the staff at River Hill Rehab and Odyssey Hospice of Kerrville for their caring help.

Jeanne “Tutu” Barlow Cardwell

Jeanne “Tutu” Barlow Cardwell, 86, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014. She was born May 18, 1927 on the Simons and Perry Ranch. She was a farmer and bookkeeper for four Ford dealers and one Chevrolet dealer in Robstown, Texas and also for King and Son Grain Elevator in Robstown. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Driscoll, Texas, a charter member of Central Baptist Church in Robstown, Texas, a member of Calallen Baptist Church and at the time of her death a member of River Hills Baptist Church. She volunteered with her church, the Salvation Army and the Northwest Senior Citizens Center, enjoyed playing Bridge, was an avid sports fan, especially the San Antonio Spurs, and traveled extensively.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Alexander and Ora Lorraine Brown Barlow, her brother, Ray Barlow, her husband, Lonnie Cardwell and her daughter, Gail Cardwell Shanahan.

She is survived by her daughter, Kay Wauson of Corpus Christi, Texas; her son, Larry (Joan) Cardwell of Sonoma, California; her grandchildren, Christopher (Sarah) Cardwell, Shawn (Liz) Cardwell, and Larry (Elizabeth) Cardwell, Jr.,Justin (Jessica) Rogers, Shem (Paul) Rubke, Cory (Angela) Wauson, Chase (Tiffany) Wauson and Chad (Breanne) Wauson; her great grandchildren, Kendall, Bryan, Brooklyn, Parker, Codey, Jacob and Emily; her sister, Janette Barlow of Wimberley, Texas.

Visitation will be one hour before the funeral service.

The funeral service will be conducted at 10 A.M. Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sam Douglas officiating. Burial will follow in Robstown, Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

In lieu of flowers friends are asked to make contributions to your favorite charity.

The family would especially like to thank Lillian Moreno, Domingo Campos, Jeanette Salazar and Jina Garcia with Mir Senior Care for their special care and love extended to Jeanne during her illness.

Guadalupe “Lupe” Villareal Garcia

Guadalupe “Lupe” Villareal Garcia, age 91, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away on January 28, 2014. He was born March 19, 1922 in Skidmore, Texas to Crispin and Natividad Garcia.

He worked at the Corpus Christi Camp from 1938 to 1953 fixing fences and roads and worked in construction from 1950 to 1953.

Guadalupe worked for the Department of the Navy and NAS Corpus Christi as a forklift operator for thirty-five years from 1945 to 1984.

Mr. Garcia served in WW II and the Korean War. He started his military career in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on October 22, 1945. He served in the United States Coast Guard and was discharged on July 31, 1963. After serving in the Coast Guard he served in the Merchant Marines from 1962 to 1966.

During his military career he received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and the Meritorious Unit Award.

He was preceded in death by his son, Lupe Garcia, Jr. and is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Juanita Garcia; children, Elodia (Merced) Pena, Crispin (Maria) Garcia, Rene (Isabel) Garcia, Rosa Ana wife of Lupe, Jr., Noe (Ann) Garcia, Edmund (Ester) Garcia, Janie (Enrique) Venegas, Natividad (Alejandro) Medrano; seventeen grandchildren, Karen, Cristy, Gina, Scott, Pam, Rebecca, Karolina, Richie, Jerry, Clarissa, Adam, Jason, Adrian, Deanna, Denise, Jennifer, John Joanne, Leonard and Alexandra; twenty great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M on Sunday, February 2, 2014 with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 3, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at St Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church, 3901 Violet Rd., Corpus Christi, Texas.

Interment with full military honors will follow at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.

Donald L. Roberts

Donald L. Roberts, 66, was born on April 10, 1947 in Cotulla, Texas and died at his home on January 21, 2014.

Don was employed in 1980 by Whitey Patton, Lonestar Transportation as a truck driver until he retired.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Mary Roberts; son, Laverne Roberts; three brothers, Robert Lee and wife Georgie, Cecil and wife Wilma, and Marvin Roberts.

Donald is survived by his wife, Sylvia; sons, Louis and wife Michelle and David Roberts; grandson, David Alex; three brothers, Jim and wife Nita, George and wife Annamae, Harry and wife Annette; sister, Rosemary and husband BF Talkington.

The family would like to thank Odyssey Hospice and Nurse Elizabeth with Assist Nursing for all their care.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 24, 2014 from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow with military honors at 3:00 pm at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery

Dora Kathleen “Kay” Dugat-Taylor

Dora Kathleen “Kay” Dugat-Taylor, age 74, passed away at her home in Orange Grove, Texas on the morning of January 14, 2014. Kay was born January 12, 1940 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Frank & Bobbie Dugat.

After graduating from Calallen High School in 1957, she married her high school sweetheart, Jack Taylor. She is survived by her two daughters, Debby (Mark) Jackson and Stacey Miller. She was blessed to have five grandchildren, Brittany (Arthur) Cardona, Bradley Miller, Bethany Jackson, Justin Jackson, Levi Miller, and two great-grandchildren, Alex and Olivia Cardona. She was also blessed to have her dog, Angel, as a loyal companion who stood by her side.

Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home in Calallen.

Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, January 17, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. at the Mineral Cemetery in Mineral, Texas.
