John Earl Bullen


John Earl Bullen, beloved husband and father, member of the Greatest Generation, and former naval aviator put out his hand and touched the face of God July 29, 2015.

John was born in Somerset, Niagara County, New York on November 22, 1920.   He was the only child of Elgie Bullen and Mary Pearl Rodgers Bullen. Following his graduation from high school in Detroit, John became employed as a machinist with the Cadillac Motor Car Company. In the months following Pearl Harbor the plant began to manufacture tanks and John enlisted in the United States Navy. He was commissioned as a pilot in 1943 and conducted anti-submarine operations off of Puget Sound.   John eventually was transferred to the Corpus Christi Naval Air Station where he served as a patrol plane flight instructor. His pupils included future astronaut John Glenn and actor Tyrone Power.

Following the war John served as an air navigation instructor at the CC NAS through his retirement from the civil service in 1976. John then entered a new chapter in his life as he became a small business owner in San Angelo, Texas. John often described his years in business as the happiest time of his life. Following the sale of his business in 1998, John retired to Corpus Christi where he resided for the remainder of his years.

Although he never was a student at Texas A&M, John was an Aggie by heart. He loved visiting the campus and he regularly attended football games through his 80’s, often driving alone to go to the games with his son.

John was devoted to his cherished wife of 50 years, Betty Ruth Powell Bullen. He is also survived by his daughter, Barbara Bullen Walker and husband Ray and their children, Ivan Walker and wife Cindy, Heidi Walker, Jeremy Walker and wife Lori, and Chris Walker and wife Heather; son, Johnny Bullen; son, Arthur Bullen; son, Jeffrey Bullen and wife Rachel and their children Joshua Bullen, Jeremy Bullen, and Jonathan Bullen; step-daughter, Rhonda Read Turner and husband Steve and their children Steven Turner and wife Maggie and Alexis Turner Mian and husband Mark; step-daughter, Debby Read and daughter, Leigh Ann Bibbs Podschelne and husband Paul , step-daughter, Cindy Read Knorr and her children Jennifer Knorr Levinson and husband Jorel, and Melanie Knorr Streekstra and husband Eric; and Travis Knorr; special friend, Velma Garcia and her family. Great grandchildren include Mason Walker, Kayd Walker, Nick Wyndham Walker, Lily Walker, Anabelle Walker, Savannah Walker, Colton Walker, Matthew Podschelne, Emily Podschelne, Christian Podschelne, Sophie Levinson, Jeffrey Levinson, Robert Levinson, and Jasmine Streekstra. He is also survived by his cousin, Alta Bluhm.

A memorial visitation with family will be held from 6-8 PM on Friday, July 31st at Sawyer George Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 1st at Robstown Memorial Park.

Charles Herman Atkinson, Sr.,

Charles Herman Atkinson, Sr., was born on October 10, 1934, at home in Calallen, Texas. He died July 26, 2015 at his home in Odem, Texas at the age of 80.

He attended Calallen schools from elementary, junior high school and high school, where he graduated in 1953.

During these years, Charles participated and excelled in football, basketball, track and tennis earning many awards and lettering all four years in each sport.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Samuel and Virginia Atkinson; sons, Charles Herman Atkinson, Jr. and Jordan Charles Atkinson; grandson, Jeremy Atkinson; son-in-law, Monty Awbrey, Sr.; five brothers and one sister.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Atkinson; children, Charlene Atkinson Awbrey, Susie Forester, John (Michell) Atkinson, Scott (Toni) Vick, Suzanne Fox; daughter-in-law, Judy Atkinson; eighteen grandchildren; thirty three great-grandchildren; sister, Geraldine Miller as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Thursday, July 30, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Funeral service will conducted at 3:00 pm on Friday, July 31, 2015 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel.


Linda May Soward

Soward, Linda

Linda May Soward, 73, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away Friday, July 24, 2015 at her home. She was born May 18, 1942 in Corpus Christi to Alfred Charles and Elizabeth Sanders.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, H. B. Soward.

She is survived by her children, Debbie Bendele, Patty Moulds (Jimmy), Jolene Hawkins (Ed), David Soward (Joanne) and Rhonda Watzlavick (Steve); her sister, Clarice Haws; her brother, Alton Sanders (Anne); 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Monday, August 3, 2015 at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Dale Byrnestad officiating.

Burial will follow.

Shirley Lucille Gann Faull

Shirley Lucille Gann Faull was born on October 1, 1951 to J.R. and Edwina Gann. She was freed from her long fought battle with cancer and went home to be with her heavenly Father on July 26, 2015. Shirley married the love of her life on September 27, 1970.   They shared a lifetime together filled with laughter love and friendship.   They were blessed with one son Michael and one daughter Melinda. They were her sunshine. She made every attempt to be her kids biggest supporters and was the most passionate and involved Mom around. She was their loudest cheerleader and most dedicated fan you will ever know. To know her and be her friend was to be a part of her family and have someone in your corner to lean on. She was a confidant, a warrior, champion and hero to everyone she knew, loved and called friend. Her talents knew no end; ceramics, jelly making, cosmetology, crafting just to name a few that she excelled in and enjoyed doing. She was a woman of immense courage and an unbridled spirit. Her love and devotion to family magnified as she became a grandmother. With each one she seemed to take on an endless energy to know and love each one of them uniquely, individually and without end. The legacy she has left behind to her family is one of amazing and ferocious love and passion.

She leaves behind her forever friend and husband of 45 years Chris Faull of Odem, Texas, her brother Douglas and wife Jana Gann of Mesa Arizona, her son Michael and wife Belinda of Eldorado, Texas, her daughter Melinda and husband Rick Roberson of Odem, Texas and the shining stars of her life seven grandchildren Mykala, Shelby, Hannah and Colby Roberson all of Odem, Texas and Canyon, Marshall, and Reese Faull all of Eldorado. Her niece Brandy and her children Carly Dugger and Meghan Wilkins and nephew Blake Gann all of Mesa Arizona. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials can be made to colon and lung cancer research or charity of their choice.

Memorial services will be conducted on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel.

Michael Joseph McDevitt

McDevitt, Michael

Michael (Bad Bob) McDevitt of Corpus Christi lost a brief battle with cancer on July 21, 2015.

He was 66.

Mike was a father, husband and grandfather. He worked for Budd Electric for 25 years. He was a Vietnam veteran. His passions were riding and fishing.

Survivors include his wife Pat Tutor; daughter, Brande McDevitt Molina, and granddaughters Andrea and Alexandra; two step sons Wesley and Michael Tutor, and ten step grandchildren; as well as many close friends he called family.

Memorial services will be held honoring Michael on Monday, July 27, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Sawyer George, 12497 Leopard Street, Corpus Christi, TX 78410.
