Ismael “Smiley” V. Pena, Jr.

Ismael “Smiley” V. Pena, Jr., born August 11, 1943, returned to his heavenly home on September 28, 2015. He was 72 years old.

Born to the late Ismael Pena, Sr. and Gregoria (Pena) V. Moran, Ismael graduated from Alice High School in 1962 and was a student at Texas A&I in Kingsville. He was a dedicated family man who unselfishly gave himself not only to his family but also to his career. Smiley, as many knew him, shared his knowledge and work ethic with all he encountered during his 31 years in the maintenance department at Coastal States Refinery. He was also a gifted carpenter that enjoyed bringing smiles to others by sharing his creations.

He was an avid fan of baseball, ping-pong, westerns, mariachi and country music. When he wasn’t working on a project he enjoyed sitting down in his garage relaxing to his music. Ismael enjoyed life and all it had to offer with his family and friends and made sure to share those moments daily. He was a strong man with a big heart who never hid his emotions. Ismael showed his love in many ways to many people.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ismael Pena Sr. and Gregoria (Pena) V. Moran.

Ismael is survived by his wife of 49 years, Yolanda M. Pena; his sons, Javier (Michele Johnson) Pena, Gabriel (Precilla) Pena and Noel (Renee) Pena; his grandchildren, Ismael “Izzy” Carlos, Thalia, Marcos, Ava Elizabeth and Sheridan. Additionally he is survived by his extended family of cousins, nephews and nieces.

Rosary will be recited at Sawyer George Funeral Home, Corpus Christi, Texas on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at 7 P.M. with viewing times from 6-8 P.M. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 2, 2015 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church on FM 624 west of Calallen at 10 A.M. His final resting place will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum in Robstown Texas.

Donald G. “Donnie” Wright, Sr.

Donald G. “Donnie” Wright, Sr., 74, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2015. He was born September 29, 1940 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Harold Richard Wright, Sr. and Florence Fails Wright. He was a member of Banquete United Methodist Church and was Vice President of Wright Materials, Inc.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra Wright of Corpus Christi, Texas; his son, Donald Gene Wright, Jr. (Lauri) of Robstown, Texas; his daughter, Jana Lynne Wright (Jimmy) of Calallen, Texas; his brother, Harold Richard Wright, Jr. (Luella) of Robstown, Texas; his grandsons, Kalen Brady Hammack of Austin, Justin Richard Wright of New York City, New York, Benjamin Michael Wright of Plano, Texas and Donald Gene “Buddy” Wright, III of Corpus Christi, Texas; and a large extended family.

Visitation will be from 6 P.M until 8 P.M. Friday, September 25, 2015 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Kathey Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Robstown Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be his four grandsons and John Miller, Dwayne Truesdale and Sam Keach.

Louise Campbell

Campbell, Louise

Louise Campbell, 79, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away September 19, 2015 in Harlingen, Texas. She was born June 21, 1936 in Nowata, Oklahoma to Robert Orley and Mary Etta Camden Curnutte. She was a beautician and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Campbell.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Willie M. Campbell; her children, Dennis (Mickey) Ballard, Connie (Bobby) Neuse, Jim (Maria) Campbell, and Doug (Irma) Ballard; her brother, Ray (Ida) Curnutte; her sister, Ann Lawson; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Friday, September 25, 2015 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at 12 Noon Friday at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.

Donald (Don) Edwards Lawrence

Donald (Don) Edwards Lawrence, 84, passed September 20, 2015 at the Holmgreen Center in Corpus Christi of natural causes.

Born in 1931, he grew up in Longview, TX. He is he son of Jessie and Ina Mae (Edwards) Lawrence. He was a longtime resident of Corpus Christi.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Juanita Stanford. Don is survived by his wife of 30 years, Joyce Lawrence; his sons, Donny Lawrence (Melody) & James Lawrence (Elizabeth); his daughter, Nancy Kennerly (Mark); his nephew, Robert Bailey (Marilyn);

He has six grandchildren, Scott Lawrence, Dee Lawrence, Cody Lawrence, Kaela Lawrence, Christi (Kennerly) Hindes, Ryan Kennerly; and six great grandchildren, Tanner Lawrence, Jane Lawrence, Cort Hindes, Cali Hindes, Jack Kennerly, Sam Kennerly.

In his early years, Don attended public school and graduated from Longview High School in 1948. He studied 2 years at Kilgore Junior College, worked briefly in Ft. Worth for Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Co., and then joined the Navy in 1951 during the Korean War. He served his country aboard an aircraft carrier working on helicopters, ran the officer’s club at the Naval Air Station in Kingsville, and was also stationed in Lakehurst, NJ.

Don and his first wife, Barbara Moody, whom he married in 1953, had two children; Donny and Nancy. They lived in Robstown, TX.

When his service with the Navy was completed in 1955, he went to work for Central Power and Light Co. (CP&L) as a machinist.

Don and his second wife Leanna Perrenot, whom he married in 1968, had a son; James. They lived in Corpus Christi.

Don and his third wife, Joyce (Molsberry) Kerr, whom he married in 1985, did not have any children. Joyce’s children are Randy Kerr, Raymond Kerr, and Bridget (Kerr) Hays. Joyce worked in the CP&L central office and a mutual friend introduced them. They also lived in Corpus Christi.

He worked for CP&L for 33 years. He was General Plant Forman at the time of his early retirement in 1988. During his retirement, he enjoyed his lifetime hobby of woodworking and even had an addition added to the back of his garage in pursuit of a place to put his many tools.

He had a passion for woodworking and created many handcrafted items for friends and family members. He enjoyed watching television programs on woodworking, especially This Old House, and created an extensive collection of taped programs. He was always curious about the world and was a lifetime learner.

The visitation and viewing will be held in Corpus Christi on September 22 at the Sawyer-George Funeral Home located at 12497 Leopard St, Corpus Christi, TX from 5pm to 7pm. The memorial service and burial will be held later in the week.

 

The service will be held in Longview, TX on September 24 at the Rader Funeral Home located at 1617 Judson Road, Longview, TX starting at 2pm. He will be buried in the Edwards family cemetery following the service.

Shirley “Pat” Sorensen

Shirley “Pat” Sorensen, 79, of Odem, Texas passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015 surrounded by family.  She was born in Colorado City, Texas on September 30, 1935 to Roy and Ruby Morris.

She enjoyed being a housewife, dining out and watching movies. It was extremely difficult for her to continue living without her beloved husband of almost 60 years. Her earthly journey has come to a close but her eternal salvation with our Lord is everlasting. We know George met her at the heavenly gates and walked her hand and hand into paradise.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Rothlisberger; and her sons, Brian and Paul (Cindy) Sorensen; and his daughter in law, Cynthia Sorensen.  She has 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Monday , September 21, 2015 from 6 to 8 pm at Sawyer George Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 am on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel.
