J. B. Parker

Parker, J.B.

J. B. Parker went to be with our Lord on January 23, 2016 with his loving family by his side. J.B. was born on February 9, 1935 to Jesse Buford and Artie Parker in Corpus Christi, Texas. He is a lifelong resident of Corpus Christi. J.B. graduated from W.B. Ray High School in 1953 and took courses in accounting. He worked as a bookkeeper and accountant until 1968. As a young man he was active in the Jr. Chamber of Commerce holding every office except president.  He joined the West Corpus Rotary club and was president in 1975 of that organization. He was a Paul Harris honoree and kept a 29 year perfect attendance with the Rotary Club. In 1969, with his partner, George Brown, he opened Texas Office Supply. The two men opened two stores in Corpus Christi as well as South Texas Office Products in Victoria. J.B. retired in 1999 from the office supply business. He was a very avid hunter and loved traveling with his wife and partner. They were able to travel throughout the United States and Europe. He loved motor homing and spent many summers in Ruidoso, New Mexico. J.B. was an avid woodworker after he retired and made many beautiful pieces of art. J.B., otherwise known by all his grandchildren as Popeye, loved his family and his faith. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 59+ years, Carolyn. Also, he is survived by two sons, Kevin, Kurtis (Sylvia) and daughter Karen (Michael), four grandchildren, Jessica Jayne, Alyssa (Polo), Krista, Jamison and two great grandsons, Polo and Nico, and two loyal companions Yoli and Pippa.  J.B.  is also survived by two brothers, Doyle Parker (Joan) and Kenneth  (Barbara) Parker. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 27 at 2:00 at Grace United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Grace United Methodist Building Fund.  The family would like the Christus Spohn Homecare Hospice for their kindness and compassion.

William Ball

William Ball, age 54, passed away on Saturday, the 16th of January 2016, surrounded by family and friends. 

He is survived by his mother, Arlene Ball of Missoui City; his loving wife, Ellen Ball of Corpus Christi; and his two daughters, Abby and Kelly Ball. He also leaves behind his two brothers, David and Jonathon Ball and their families.

Passionate about education, William worked at various school districts in the Coastal Bend, ending his career as an Assistant Principal at Calallen High School.  He also was involved with the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra as well as participated in various charity events over the years. He will be remembered fondly by his family and friends for his witty personality and his caring nature.

In lieu of services, there will be a memorial fund set up through Calallen High School.


Rosa Irene Quick Haines

Rosa Irene Quick Haines, age 93 of Odem and formerly of Vanderbilt, Texas, passed away on January 9, 2016 in Corpus Christi. Rosa was born on November 8, 1922 to Clara Myrtle and Floyd Somers Quick in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. She was married to Jackie Leo Haines and celebrated 70 years of marriage before his death in 2012.

Survivors include daughters: Donna (Art) Eckman of Atlanta, GA and Carole (Jim) Kolle of Inez, Texas; sons: David (Johnnie) of Cypress, Texas, Randy (Shelley) of Calallen, Texas and John of Corpus Christi, and a very special adopted family, Senay (Clarence) Payne of Romayor, Texas. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, an infant son, and a daughter-in-law.

A devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, she was loved by so many for her selfless acts and generosity to others. She was known for her excellence in the kitchen and anyone who was invited to her table was truly blessed. She was dedicated to serving the Lord at the First Baptist Church of Odem, where she taught the Ruth Sunday School Class for many years. She was employed in Vanderbilt by the Jackson County Water District and after moving to Odem, worked in the Odem-Edroy ISD administration office.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 14, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Sawyer-George Funeral Home, 12497 Leopard Street, Corpus Christi. Funeral services will be on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church, 307 West Turner Street, Odem Texas. Burial will be at Odem Evergreen Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Shane, Barret and Clay Kolle, Jeremy and Jordan Haines, Brandon Guthrie and Joshua Haines and great-grandson Noah Kolle. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters Christine Eckman and Kara Eckman Mecke, Kimber-Lea Wiggins and Camryn Haines.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff at TRISUN River Ridge Care Center for the care given to our loved one. Their compassion and professionalism is greatly appreciated and will be forever remembered.

Judy Ann Ferrell

Ferrell, Judy_0001Judy Ann Ferrell, 71, of Orange Grove, Texas passed away Monday, January 11, 2016 at her home. She was born February 11, 1944 in San Diego, Texas to Sam and Katie Lee Homan Davis. Judy was a member of the Orange Grove Church of Christ and was a bus driver for the Orange Grove I.S.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jerry Franklin Ferrell.

She is survived by her daughters, Sherry (Jim) Karstens of Corpus Christi, Texas and Jeri (Donny) Dixon of Lake City, Texas; five grandchildren, Billy Pinder, Kayla (Blake) Charlton, Joshua (Stephanie) Simnacher, Andrew (Brittany) Pinder and Matthew Simnacher; 5 great grandchildren; two brothers, Sammy and Emmett Davis.

Visitation will begin at 9 A.M. Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Orange Grove Church of Christ.

The Funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Orange Grove Church of Christ with Joey Vaughan officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 9:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.

Carlene Joyce Petty

Carlene Joyce Petty, 87, died suddenly on Saturday, January 9, 2016.

She was a retired teacher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Petty; her mother and father, Mary and Carlie Howington; her sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and William Pate.

Survivors include her sister and brother-law, Bobbie and Wayne Gossett; her children, Patsy Vincent, Bonnie Petty, Jan LaCour (Ed), David Petty (Karen); ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will conducted on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at the Weber Road Church of Christ at 1:00 p.m. Visitation: 12:15 p.m. – 12:45 p.m.
