Bertha Lenora Brzozowski Roznovsky

Roznovsky, Bertha

Bertha Lenora Brzozowski Roznovsky left her earthly home to rejoice with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 3, 2016.

Bertha was born to Elizabeth Mary (Van Beveren) Brzozowski and William Emil Brzozowski in Yoakum, Texas on December 7, 1924.  In death, she is reunited with her parents, her brothers Bill, J.B. and J.C. Brzozowski; son-in-law Frederick Pulley; infant son, Stephen Michael Roznovsky and her beloved husband, Frank Joe Roznovsky.  Bertha is survived by her children Wanda Pulley, Joe (Cathy) Roznovsky, Mary Warner, and Angela Roznovsky; grandchildren Mark (TJ) Roznovsky, David (Sara) Roznovsky, Gary (Laura) Roznovsky, Christopher Pulley, Sara Pulley, Danielle (Clint) Tucker, Nicole (Stephen) Vizuete, Robert “Bo” Warner (and fiance, Kimber Gorman); and ten great-grandchildren; brothers Robert (Catherine) Brzozowski, Lawrence (Mary Agnes) Brzozowski, sister Dolly (Bill) Alexander; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bertha’s love and dedication to family was known by all.

Bertha graduated from the Baldwin Business College in Yoakum, Texas and went on to teach there where she met and fell in love with her future husband, Frank.  They were married January 24, 1950.  After relocating to Corpus Christi, she was employed by Tuloso-Midway ISD from 1971-1990. Affectionately known as “Mrs. Roz”, Bertha is remembered by students, faculty and administrators alike as a source of comfort and encouragement when needed most.

Bertha was a faithful member of St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church and offered her gift of song to the church choir for over 25 years. She and her husband, Frank, were original members of St. Peter’s Polka Mass Choir, traveling to sister-congregations to celebrate their faith heritage. Bertha also lived her faith in service through membership in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Regent Court 246.

Bertha’s hobbies included genealogy and painting. With a slow and steady hand she created breathtaking works of art. Bertha was mentored by the late renowned artist, Mrs. Elizabeth Simpson of Corpus Christi, and her medium of choice was oil on canvas.  As a member of the South Texas Traditional Art Association, she received numerous awards and ribbons for her paintings and was featured in several art publications as well as the Corpus Christi Caller Times. Bertha especially enjoyed participating in art shows in her hometown of Yoakum.

Bertha will perhaps be remembered most for her positive, cheerful countenance, and affirmations like “so delighted!” and “Good! Good! Good!”  Regardless the circumstances, she never complained, but instead always had a smile to offer and a positive word to go with it.  She was a loyal friend and devoted mother and sister. Long after rheumatoid arthritis crippled her hands, she remained diligent in her passion for acknowledging birthdays, anniversaries and holidays with hand-written cards to family and friends.

Bertha leaves behind a treasured legacy of offering a blessing to loved ones as they depart. And when she could no longer extend her arms, each would bow their heads as low as necessary just to receive the sign of the cross on their foreheads with the spoken prayer “God bless you and keep you safe”.  In remembering and carrying on the tradition, her gentle smile remains with us.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Bertha’s faithful friend, Evelyn Martini, for her weekly visits; to Gayle Poe for keeping Mom’s beautiful white hair washed and permed; and to Paul Hickey who served her Holy Communion each week.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday, July 8, 2016 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Following visitation a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M.
