Billy Joe Biddy

Billy Joe Biddy, born August 1, 1945, passed away from natural causes in Corpus Christi, Texas on Tuesday, November 22, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Pauline “Peggy” Biddy. He was surrounded in love and survived by his daughters, grandsons, family, and friends and will be dearly missed. He was an avid golfer and outdoors man who enjoyed an active lifestyle in his younger years in South Texas. He made many memorable trips both in business and leisure and spoke a number of languages. He served in the army during the Vietnam era and was always very proud of his service to his country. Per his request a private services will be held with his immediate family. In lieu of flowers donations to the American Cancer Society are appreciated.

Marie Smith

Smith, Marie

Marie Smith, 96, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away Sunday, November 27, 2016. She was born October 14, 1920 in Ranger, Texas.  She was a homemaker and a member of Annaville Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Alvin, Sr. and Mamie Windham Brown; her husband, Boyd Huguley Smith; her son, Claude Edward Smith; and her brother, Claude Alvin Brown, Jr.

She is survived by her daughters, Janice (Jim) Boyne and Darlene (Robert) Woerndell; her sister, Betty (Marvin) Voss; her sister-in-law, Hazel Brown; five grandchildren, Kelly Boyne, Kevin Boyne, Tim (Amy) Woerndell, Crystal (Gene, Jr.) Johnson, and Angelina Kaylynn Woerndell; 13 great grandchildren, Randy Boyne, Katelynn Boyne, Stephanie Johnson, Jonathan Johnson, Destiny Johnson, Lilly Johnson, Lylah Johnson, Chloey Woerndell, Amanda Woerndell, Matthew Woerndell, Andrew Woerndell, Zane Woerndell, Summer Woerndell; great great grandson, Kayson Zepeda; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin one hour before the funeral service.

The funeral service will be conducted at 10 A.M. Friday, December 2, 2016 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Robert Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Robert Woerndell, Gene Johnson, Jr., Jonathan Johnson, Tim Woerndell, Kevin Boyne and Josh Landers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Boyne, Gene Johnson, Sr. and Robert Hardwick.

The family would especially like to thank New Century Hospice, Debbie Hudson and Honey Duggan for their excellent and loving care of Marie.

Horace Allen Magouirk, Allen as he was called

Horace Allen Magouirk, Allen as he was called, was born February 1, 1932 to Horace Michael and Hattie Bell Magouirk.

He was one of 12 children and was preceded in death by Mack, JR, JB, Cecil, Clarence, Ray, Alfred, Pauline, Mildred, Dorthey, and Beatrice.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Norma Jean, wife of Clarence Magouirk; his son, David Magouirk and his wife Christy; his daughter, Susanne “Sissie” and her husband, Kirk Bennett and their son, Devin and his daughters, Bailey and Brook;  son, Jeffrey Magouirk and his wife Leia, and their children, Devon, Alicia, and Elizabeth; great grandson, Jaden Blank.

Pallbearers will be his sons, David Magouirk and Jeffrey Magouirk, his son-in-law, Kirk Bennett, his grand-sons, Devin Bennett and Devon Blankenship, grand nephew, Travis Magouirk , nephews, Mark Magouirk and Mike Whitfield.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 11:30 A.M. in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dale Brynestad officiating.

Interment will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.


Dortha Fern Olney

Olney, Dortha

Our beloved mother passed safely home into the arms of

her Lord and Savior on November 19, 2016; after 89 full

years here with us. Dortha was born July 21, 1927, the

second daughter of David and Ruth Baxter. Dortha

married John Clifford Olney in 1949, and together they

raised a family of 3 children. They lived in Corpus

Christi until 1970 where Dortha was very active in the

Corpus Christi Women’s Geological Society. She and her

family were members of the First Presbyterian Church.

They moved to Houston and both were involved in Pines

Presbyterian Church where she was elected to the church

board and served as an elder. They moved back to

Corpus Christi in 2003 to live closer to their son,


Dortha was an accomplished seamstress and sewed for the

public in Houston for several years. She also loved to

bake. Among her many specialties, she was known for

her pralines, peanut blossoms, and banana nut bread.

There was never a birthday or a holiday that those were

not requested and, she always made extras to send home.

Dortha gave back to her family, friends, and community

in various ways.

John and Dortha have 3 children who survive them:

Marci Richter (Tampa, Fl.), Craig Olney (Indianapolis,

In.), and David Olney (Corpus Christi, TX.). All are

happily married to : Dr. Joel Richter, Christy Olney,

and Jeanne Olney, who gave them 9 grandchildren:

Nicole, Mandy, Jason, Jimmy, Ryan, Nathan, Amber, Amos,

and Morgan, and 8 great grandchildren.

Our mother gave us a wonderful path to follow of faith,

marriage and parenthood. We will miss her greatly; but

know that she will be with her beloved John in eternal


​A Memorial Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at Jackson Woods Presbyterian Church at 2 P.M. Saturday, November 26th, 2016.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Dortha to Jackson Woods Presbyterian Church or your favorite Alzheimer’s research institute.​

Frances Ann McGonagill

Frances Ann McGonagill, age 79, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away November 17, 2016. She was born December 5, 1936 in Beeville, Texas to Frank and Annie Lauer.

Frances worked at the Corpus Christi Museum and at the IBEWLU #278 Federal Credit Union. She loved to paint and was a talented piano player.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Brenda McGonagill.

She is survived by her husband, Darrell McGonagill of Corpus Christi, Texas; a daughter, Celest McGonagill of Denver, Colorado; a son, Craig McGonagill of Denver, Colorado; a grandson, Jason Briseno of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and many cousins.

Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 22, 2016 in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will follow at 3:30 P.M. in the Evergreen Cemetery in Skidmore, Texas.
