Neal Hugh Mays, Jr.

Mays, Jr.Neal Hugh

Neal Hugh Mays, Jr., better known as “Junior” or “Primetime” was unexpectedly taken to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the age of 71.  He was born in Harlingen, Texas on July 2, 1946.  He was a very loving and caring husband to his wife of 48 years.  He was adored by his two sons who he raised with great leadership and unconditional love.  He played an intricate part in the lives of his extended family and impacted them in a way they will carry with them for a lifetime.  Junior had a work ethic that was second to none.  He started farming on his family’s farm at the young age of 10 years old and worked to make a living until the day he passed.  He spent 44 years working in the refineries where he earned the respect and favor of his peers through hard work, a caring heart and a great sense of humor.  Neal accepted Christ into his life at the age of 30 at West Heights Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.  This decision impacted his life in so many ways that allowed him to be such a great blessing to others.   He touched so many lives through his faith and was a strong believer in the power of prayer.  He was a man of few words, but had a smile that would light up the room and melt your heart.  He had a strong passion for hunting, the Texas Longhorns, Chevrolet trucks and classic country music.  He would save all his vacation days for hunting season so that he could spend time in the woods to enjoy God’s creations.  He was country in every sense of the word and would turn heads when he walked into a room decked out in his cowboy hat and boots.  He was a man of great stature and brought a warm and peaceful presence to each room he stepped into.
