James Calvin “Jim” Miller

James Calvin “Jim” Miller, 76, passed into eternity on December 29, 2017.  He was born to J. C. and Madge Miller in Texarkana, Texas on January 17, 1941.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived his wife, Roberta “Bobi”; his children, James Calvin Miller Jr., Tammy Lynn Land and James Christopher (Kelly) Miller; his sister, Mary Jane (David) Orr; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Rick Milby officiating.

Sarah Mejia Avila

On December 25, 2017, Sarah Mejia Avila left her earthly life to spend her eternal life walking the streets of gold with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  She was born on June 5, 1932 to Cristobal and Sofia Mejia and had 6 brothers and 3 sisters.  She lived a wonderfully blessed and adventurous life.  She was married for 38 years to the absolute love of her life, Victor F. Avila, Sr.  She loved to travel and did this often with her husband and her 5 children whom she dedicated her life to.  She had 1 daughter, Miriam Gutierrez and 4 sons, Victor Jr. (Josie), Edward, Joe (Rose), and Arnold (Dorothy).  She had 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and she loved them all tremendously.  Sarah prayed her rosary everyday and enjoyed watching EWTN.  In 1988, she was blessed by her husband when they opened up Avila’s Beer Garden and she was able to spend time doing what she loved most with her family and her friends which was listening to music, singing, dancing, cooking and baking.  She enjoyed participating in cooking contests and her rum cake was a particular favorite.  She is preceded in death by her husband Victor F. Avila Sr., her son in law Luis Gutierrez, Jr., her parents Cristobal and Sofia Mejia, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

Her life will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 with a viewing beginning at 5:00 p.m. and a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Sawyer George Funeral Home, 12497 Leopard St., Corpus Christi, Texas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at St. Peter Prince of the Apostle’s Catholic Church, 3901 Violet Rd., Corpus Christi, Texas, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with a burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8200 Old Brownsville Rd., Corpus Christi, Texas.

The family would like to thank Dr. Munson for taking care of Sarah and for his encouraging words that he always gave to her along with the staff and nurses of Aadi Home Health Agency.

Loretta Boerner

Loretta Boerner, 99 of Granbury, Texas, passed away December 27, 2017. Loretta was born December 23, 1918, in Granger, Texas to Matt and Louise Strmiska. Loretta lived most of her adult life in Violet, Texas where she was very involved with St. Anthony Catholic Church and the community. Family, faith, learning, and leadership exemplified her life.

Loretta was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank P. Havelka; second husband, Otto J. Boerner; son, Franklin Leroy Havelka; daughter, Helen Havelka Liedecke; and daughter, Karen Boerner. Loretta is survived by son, Don Havelka and wife Carolyn, Violet, Texas; daughter, Loretta Sherar and husband Doug, Granbury, Texas; son, Mike Boerner and wife Jennifer, Austin, Texas; twelve grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She will be missed, loved, and remembered as a role model, friend, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

Visitation and Rosary will be held at 7 pm, January 3, 2018, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 3918 County Road 61, Robstown, Texas. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am, January 4, 2018, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Anthony Cemetery Association or the Violet Historical Society. Terry Hugh Webster


Terry Hugh Webster of Corpus Christi, Texas, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away December 23, 2017, after a short battle with cancer. He was born October 18, 1928 in Dodge City, Kansas to Hugh and Floy Webster.

He graduated from Kemper Military High School in May 1946. Terry moved to Corpus Christi in 1947.

He served in the United States Army and the Army Reserves from 1951 to 1956 and was in the Korean War.

Terry married his wife, Rose Ellen, on December 23, 1969. Together they were a family with five children, who were all loved as his own, and who loved him as their Dad.

Terry was a salesman most of his adult life. Terry retired from S&H Green Stamps in 1981. He joined his wife Rose Ellen in the business of R.D.A. Beauty Supply in 1984, where he sold beauty supplies to salons and cosmetologists in Corpus Christi and the surrounding area.  They owned the business until they sold it and retired in 2009 to travel and visit their many children and grandchildren.

Terry loved hunting, fishing and telling jokes, and mostly being with his family.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sharon Meyers.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rose Ellen Webster; children, Judy O’Briant, Kenny Simmons and his wife Lisa, Lucille Jones and husband, Gary, Mark Rush and wife Sandy, Mitchell Rush and wife Susan; grandchildren, Lisa Hall and husband Donnie, Brandon Womack, Chelsea Steers and husband Steven; Jason Simmons and wife Summer, Gary Jones, Shane Jones and fiancé Kelsie, Reed Jones, Tanner Rush and wife Bethany, Rita Rush, Megan Beggs and husband Kendall, Rebekah Rush; and three great grandchildren, Reese Hall, Rance Hall and Kenleigh Jones.

The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to River City Hospice, out of Alice, Texas and their staff of nurses and caregivers for their wonderful and compassionate care of our husband and father in his final days. Jeanette Kruger Pfluger Fox

Jeanette Kruger Pfluger Fox, 82, went home to be with our Lord on December 17, 2017.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kruger; siblings; First husband, Howard Pfluger; and second husband, James “Bud” Fox; son, Byron Pfluger.

Jeanette will be forever remembered by Lucy Lu, her Sheltie; daughter, Diana Pfluger; son, Greg  Pfluger (Tami); daughter-in-law, Susie Pfluger; daughter, Debby Butler (Jim); son, Chad Fox (Melanie); son, Bruce Fox (Boudreax); 36 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one grand dog and numerous nieces, nephews and a circle of friends.

Jeanette was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend. She was always positive, encouraging and found good in everyone. She was quick to laugh. Her smile and sparkling eyes lit up the room. She enjoyed her family, golfing, traveling and bridge.

Memorial service will be on January 6, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church on Odem.
