Barry James Baker

Baker, BarrryBarry James Baker (58) of Odem, Texas passed away on August 17, 2018.Barry was born in Sidney, Montana on November 26, 1959 to Joan and Wilbur Baker. He grew up on the family ranch in Richey, Montana with his brother, Gary Baker, and sister, Leann (Kevin) Pignone.  He graduated from Richey High School in 1977.  He married his best friend, Charlene, on July 8, 1989.   They relocated to Texas to further his career in the refinery industry.  He is survived by five daughters: Danielle, Lisa, Adrian, Taera (Timmy) and Tawnee (Vanessa); as well as twelve grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his Joan Baker (mother), Jenilee Carter (daughter), and Wilbur Baker (father).Barry was an avid hunter and fisherman.  His spare time was enjoyed with his family.  Outdoors was where he felt the best; grilling out, working in his yard, and breathing in the fresh air were his favorite activities.  From the boots to the hat, the family ranch instilled in him the cowboy spirit.  One of his proudest achievement was helping Refined Technologies Inc. expand and build their company to its current potential. He gave their Western expansion all he had. He had the utmost respect, from and for everyone.  He was incredibly personable which made him everyone’s best friend.  Ever the logical thinker, he was the cornerstone and foundation of the family. His reliability and kindness as a husband, father, Papa, brother, son, coworker, and friend was incomparable.

The memorial service will be held at Sawyer-George Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, Texas on Friday at 1pm the 24th of August 2018.

Robert E. Cunningham, Jr.

Robert E. Cunningham, Jr. passed away August 18, 2018 at the age of 95. He was born November 18, 1923 to Robert E. Cunningham, Sr. and Ida Ree McKee Cunningham in Kenedy, Texas.  He graduated Kenedy High School and on January 6, 1942 he volunteered for military service for his country.  After entering the service, he moved from one base to another and finally to New York for overseas duty.  Arriving in Great Britain as a Military Policeman he was shipped to North Africa where he was promoted to Motorcycle Patrolman in the traffic section for two years.  He then transferred to the Italian campaign and served until the end of the war.

Robert entered Draughons College in San Antonio, Texas receiving his Accounting Degree. There he met the love of his life, Margie Fowler.  They were married November 11, 1949 and moved to Corpus Christi in 1950 where he worked as an overhead crane operator for Halliburton and Centex Cement Corporation for 35 years, retiring in 1986.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and a faithful member of the Hwy 44 Church of Christ in Robstown.  For many years he was a member of the Texas State Guard, serving under Col. Earl C. Dunn and reached the rank of Captain.  He was a volunteer Fireman in the Annaville Fire Department and served as an Assistant Chief.  He enjoyed fishing and was an avid bowler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Lee Orien Cunningham and Lee’s wife Barbara, and his sister, Lois Irene Cunningham.

He is survived by his wife, Margie; a son, Robert III and his wife, Deborah; grandchildren, Anthony Neil Cunningham and Erica Marie Cunningham; sister-in-law, Joyce Ryan.

Graveside funeral services with full military honors will be conducted on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery with Larry Cash officiating.

Mary Jo Kidd Pierce

Mary Jo Kidd Pierce, 93, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away Saturday, August 18, 2018. She was born December 14, 1924 in Iowa Park, Texas to R. B. and Nonnie Mae Kidd and was raised in Freer, Texas.  Mary Jo and R. D. lived in Mission, Texas where they raised their children.  She worked for 25 years and retired from Sears in McAllen, Texas.  They moved to Calallen/Corpus Christi in 1998 to be closer to their family.  She was an active member for 30 years of Grace United Methodist Church.  She resided in River Ridge Care Center for the past three years.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, R. D. Pierce; and sweet daughter-in-law, Tara Pierce.

She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Montgomery; two sons, Michael (Karen) Pierce and Ricky Pierce; one daughter, Jody (Ronnie) Eason; grandchildren, Doug Vance, Jennifer (Jeff) Miller, Chance (Tanya) Pierce, Ryder (Jennifer) Pierce, Ryan Pierce, Kathleen (Matthew) Georg, Ronnie Mack Eason, Kimmie (Paul) Pledger, Ashley (Stephen) Davis, Aubrey (Sterling) Brown; great grandchildren, Greg, Taylor and Kristen Vance, Halie and Emma Pierce, Haylee and Kaylee Mathas, Cole, Rebecca and Madison Georg, Cael and Thadd Eason, Derrick and Bailey Pledger, Pierce Davis, Brighton and Carrington Brown; three great great grandchildren, Grayson and Astoria Vance and Brinley Pledger; and a large extended family that loved and adored their Nanny.

Visitation will be from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Jason Fry officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 3 P.M. Wednesday August 22, 2018 at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission, Texas with Bro. Ralph Green, III officiating.

Mary Jo loved flowers and we also want to support the Alzheimer’s Association, 3649 Leopard Street, Suite 403, Corpus Christi, Texas 78408 in memory of Mary Jo Pierce.

Our family is forever grateful for the friendship and time Linda Goulet invested in our Nanny.

Gerald Lee Sherman, Sr.

Gerald Lee Sherman, Sr., age 85, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away August 15, 2018.

Gerald served is the United States Marine Corp in Korea. Gerald was Past President of the F.O.E. # 2249.  They moved to Corpus Christi April 1, 1968 and to the Annaville area in August, 1968.  He coached and was an umpire in the Oil Belt Little League.  He owned the Annaville and Cotton Pickers plumbing supply from 1991 to 2009.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty and a brother, Dale Gene Sherman.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Barbara Sherman; seven children; twenty grandchildren; and seventeen great grandchildren.

A Rosary will be recited on Monday, August 20, 2018 at 7:00 P.M. in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at 11:30 A.M. at St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church.

Interment will follow at 1:00 P.M. in the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donation be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America.

Calvin Wylie Prickett

Calvin Wylie Prickett, age 83 of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away August 11, 2018. He was born June 10, 1935 in Waco, Texas to Calvin and Opal Prickett.

Calvin is preceded in death by a son, Calvin Wayne Prickett and is survived by his wife, Doris Prickett; his children, Vickie Lynn Prickett, Melissa (Bill) Clifton, Linda Sullivan, Doree (Lonnie) Roschetzky, Jovin Caldwell Prickett, Timothy (Terri) Prickett; sister, Joyce Nowotny; fifteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ronnie Watson officiating.

Interment will follow in the Robstown Memorial Park.
