Anna Mae Kriewald Koenning, a native Texan, was born July 24, 1932 and died September 29, 2019 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Alton (Baldy) Koenning; her father, Bruno Kriewald and mother, Alvina Kriewald; sisters, Marion Grote and Marlene Bonds .

She is survived by her daughters, Saundra Koenning Thaxton (Jack), Karen Koenning (Linda Burt), Joan Koenning Owen (Terry) and their two daughters, Heather and Jamie; son, Alton (Bud) Koenning (Kellie) and their two daughters, Kendall and Kiersten and son, Bryce Birdwell.

Anna Mae attended and graduated from Robstown High School in 1948 after which she attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin. She received her Bachelor Degree in History/English in 1953. After graduation she moved to San Antonio where she taught English.  She then met Baldy and later married in 1959.  Anna and Baldy purchased a farm South of Banquete and began farming and ranching.

She dedicated her life to working with Baldy and raising four children. She was committed to staying home to raise their family. Anna’s time was involved with various activities for the children such as sports, music and schooling. Family came first and it was important to the Koennings’ to provide the most rounded environment for their success. Her quiet and gentle soul allowed her to lead us all and will continue to do so.

Though her life was centered around her children, she also enjoyed cooking, entertaining and trips to Lake Mathis for the weekends with her family. Much of her time was spent sewing for the children in their early years. Anna Mae loved animals, plants and going to the fields to watch the harvest. Of course a day to the field was not complete unless she took lunch. She was frugal and taught to never live beyond your means. She believed that honesty was the best policy and hard work was the solution to a successful life. Truthfulness was of utmost importance to her.  All of these philosophies were passed down to each of the children and expected to be practiced daily which they now do in their own lives. Anna Mae is a person that will indeed be missed.
