Allen Doubrava

February 23, 1934 — January 16, 2026

Allen Gus Doubrava, 91, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Allen was born February 23, 1934, in Bee County, Texas, to Frank and Helen (Herzog) Doubrava. Allen was the salutatorian of the Mathis High School Class of 1953. After high school, Allen attended Texas Lutheran College on a football scholarship before enlisting in the United States Army.

Following his military service, Allen began a career with Central Power & Light/American Electric Power that spanned about 57 years as a direct employee and then as a contractor/consultant.

On August 23, 1957, Allen married Lee (Leroyce) Ashcraft, and they made their home in Corpus Christi, Texas, where they raised their three children. Allen was a dedicated family man who was known for his strong work ethic and his willingness to help those in need. Although he lived in Corpus Christi, Allen clung to his country roots and enjoyed hunting, farming, raising cattle, and photographing wildlife.

Allen and Lee were faithful members of Arlington Heights Church of Christ, where Allen served as a Bible school teacher, Deacon, and then Elder for the congregation. He enjoyed working with the youth and the elderly, both at church and in the community, where he coached Little League for over a decade and guided young boys as a Cubmaster for the Boy Scouts of America. Allen positively influenced many young people’s lives through his volunteer work at Bandina Christian Youth Camp for more than 50 years, serving as a teacher, counselor, co-director, and board president for about ten years.

Allen was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Lee Doubrava, as well as his parents, Frank and Helen Doubrava; his brothers Frank Jr., Norman, and Henry Doubrava, and his sister, Frances Streb. Allen is survived by his children, Allen (Butch) Doubrava, Lorri Doubrava, and Keith Doubrava, all of Corpus Christi, by his grandson, Jonathan Flack and wife, Tawni of San Antonio, and by his great-grandchildren, Marcus Martinez of Corpus Christi and Lily Flack of San Antonio. In addition, Allen is survived by his sister, JoAnn Odom, and husband Joe of Lake Jackson, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 24th, at 12 p.m. at the Arlington Heights Church of Christ auditorium in Corpus Christi, Texas. Funeral services will commence at 1:00 p.m. with Jerry Keene officiating. Graveside services will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Skidmore, Texas.
