Alva Catherine Wylie, 95, died on June 15, 2019, following a series of strokes. She was born on November 19, 1923, in Terrell, Texas, and grew up in Freer, Texas. He parents were David and Faye Gantt of Alice, Texas. Catherine moved to Alice, Texas, in 1956. She was employed by Central Power and Light Company, and worked as secretary to five Gulf Coast District Managers before retiring in 1986. She loved her work and she loved helping others. Catherine volunteered for the Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital in Cypress, Texas and for Alice hospitals for fifteen years. Catherine had an amazing amount of energy, was artistic and was very generous. Friends and family remember spotting her zipping around Alice in her blue Ford Focus and delivering her unique self-made gifts. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Mildred Bacon, and her daughter, Darla Farrell. She loved the Lord, her children and her grandchildren. Catherine’s children are David Wylie (Christine) of Houston, Debra Richardson (Farris) of Alice and Darla Farrell of Houston. Her grandchildren are Kristen Burton (Clay), David Wylie (Nona) and Edward Farrell of Houston, Camille Delgado (Marc) of Richmond and Chad Richardson (Emily) of Pasadena, California. Also known as Memom, Catherine was great grandmother to twelve great grandchildren. Per her wishes, Catherine’s body was donated to Science Care in Coral Springs, Florida. Family and friends are gathering to share favorite memories on September 7, 2019, at the home of Debra and Farris Richardson, 1808 Walker Drive, Alice, Texas 78332. The celebration of life will begin at 7:00 P.M. She asked that memorials be sent to the First United Methodist Church, 111 North Adams Street, Alice, Texas 78332, (361) 664-3801, www.fumcalice.com. The family would like to thank Raul and Sam Sanchez, our friends and family members for the love and kindness shown during this difficult time.
