Armandina Trevino

March 11, 1937 — April 30, 2025

Corpus Christi

Armandina Ramirez Trevino, beloved sister, aunt, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on April 30, 2025, at the age of 88. She was born in Allende, Coahuila, Mexico to Lorenzo Ramirez Ortiz and Lucinda Ureste Valdez.

On July 27, 1958, she married her husband of 45 years, Carlos Garza Trevino. Before they formally met, he first saw her crossing the border coming to the U.S. After that encounter, it was love at first sight. They were soon married and left Laredo after he was discharged from the Army. At this point they had 2 daughters and moved to Austin, Texas for a short while, then finally settled in Corpus Christi where they retired.

Armandina was a devout Christian and prayed daily without ceasing for everyone she knew. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and most of all gardening. She would spend a lot of her spare time trimming, watering or repotting her large variety of fruit trees, tropical and floral shrubs. She handmade dresses for all 6 of her girls and even dresses and short pants for her grandkids and great grandkids. Everyone had a matching set or an Armandina Original! Many of her nephews and nieces have stories about the times they would travel to Corpus Christi and have one of Tia Armandina’s fabulous meals. There are also several families that know how amazing her tamales were and how no one else’s could compare.

She left school while in the third grade in the late 40’s to help support her family. She worked for a family member that owned a print shop and later worked in a department store.

Armandina received her GED in the 70’s and obtained a license to operate a home childcare service. She took care of many children for over 30 years. She lived a life of love and laughter with a deep devotion to her family and her community.

A Celebration of Life will be held May 17, 2025, at 1:00pm, in the sanctuary of Northern Hills UMC, 3703 N Loop 1604 E, in San Antonio, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her husband Carlos Garza Trevino, and her daughter Olga Lydia Laithwaite.

Armandina is survived by her daughters, Altagracia Garcia (Johnny), Elsa Veronica Kroeger, Leticia Alejandra Trevino, Arjelia Cabrera (Jesus), and Martha Laura Trevino-Phelps (Bill). Her grandchildren, John Evan Garcia (D’ann), Jesus Cabrera, Jr. (Sabrina), Jocelyn Olivia Phelps, and William Harrison Walker Phelps.
