Charles W. "Phil" Phillips

August 14, 1933 — December 29, 2023

Corpus Christi

Charles W. “Phil” Phillips, of Corpus Christi, TX, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, December 29, 2023, at the age of 90 years old. He was born August 14, 1933, in Erath County, TX, and was a longtime member of River Hills Baptist Church where he was baptized in 1983.

Phil grew up in Dublin, TX, and attended Stephenville High School. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 18 years old and served in the Korean War. Phil was stationed at the Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi and it was during his stint here in the “Sparkling City by the Sea” he met and married his loving wife, Peggy Jean Keeble on April 4, 1953. Shortly thereafter, he received his military orders, boarded the USS Midway, and was sent on a world cruise.

He and his wife of 65 years were owners of Robstown Auto Parts and Radiator Shop, Stonewall Shopping Center, Stonewall Mobile Home Estates North, Stonewall Mobile Home Estates South, Jackson Woods Mobile Home Park, and Phillips, Inc.

Phil was an adventurous man who had a love of the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman for most of his life which led him to becoming a “big game” hunter. He traveled to various parts of Africa, as well as other parts of the world in search of his prized trophies which include two full mount leopards, a lion, a silver tip grizzly bear, a Dow sheep, and many more which totals approximately 50 trophies in his great room alone.

Phil and his wife, Peggy have supported various Christian ministries throughout the world and have done so through their charitable foundation; The Phillips Charitable Foundation which was established with the mission statement to “Spread the Word of Jesus Christ to the four corners of the world.” Phil had a love of Africa and its people and his last trip to Africa was with a ministry which The Phillips Charitable Foundation supported. His desire was to aid in the salvation of others around the world, especially those who have never even heard of our Lord and Savior. He was always thrilled when he received letters or emails updating him on how many souls were saved at various revivals during the ministry’s missionary trips.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Peggy Keeble Phillips; parents, Frank and Selma Phillips; brother, Doyle Phillips; grandson, James P. Landers and loving in-laws, Jack (Ruby) Keeble, Billy W. Landers, Gina W. Phillips.

Phil is survived by his loyal family whom he adored; son, Charles F. Phillips and daughter, Pamela Landers of Corpus Christi, TX; grandchildren, Jeremy Landers, Jacquelyn (Jimmie) Williams, Josh Landers, Jeanne (Michael) Hominick all of Corpus Christi, TX, Will (Denalyn) Phillips of Las Vegas, NV; great-grandchildren, SGT Schwarz, Brandon stationed in Poland, Maya Landers, Hannah and Hayden Hominick, Bradley Williams all of Corpus Christi, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
