Corpus Christi

Charles Arthur Vanaman known as “Chuck”, born on July 15, 1954, in Germany, and a resident of Texas, passed away on January 7, 2026.

Graduating from Baylor University Law School, Chuck’s career at Berry Contracting was marked by his commitment to integrity and excellence. He approached every challenge with a unique combination of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and an indomitable spirt. The 5 tenets of Tae Kwon Do, in which he earned a 3rd degree black belt in as an adult, over a 15-year period.

Chuck was not just a professional; he was a family man. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Cleo Vanaman. Together, they created a life filled with laughter, lessons, and countless cherished memories. His legacy continues with their child, Chad Vanaman, who carries forward his values of integrity, perseverance, self-control, and an indomitable spirit. Chuck was also a proud grandfather to Hudson, Owen, and Kendal, whom he adored with all his heart.

Each of them brought immense joy to his life, and he cherished every moment spent together. Chuck was a devoted husband, father, and family man. He loved nothing more than attending baseball games for Chad, dance recitals for Kendal, or solving problems for Berry Contracting. He loved to sit on his front porch, drink his coffee and watch his grandsons Hudson and Owen play in the yard. He was the ultimate small talker, but good luck getting anything deeper out of him. He had a way of communicating that made you feel smarter after talking to him. You may not have liked the way he said it, but he was usually right. He was a man who spoke his mind and was confident in his conclusions. He had a lifetime of experience that could be drawn on, and always made himself available to others for advice. His work was deeply fulfilling to his professional life, and his family gave him meaning. He will be greatly missed and always remembered. What would Chuck say?

He is survived by his sister, Leslie P. Vanaman, and niece, Andrea Holtzman, both of whom shared in his life's journey, supporting and uplifting each other through all of life's seasons.

Charles's parents, Nathan and Eula Vanaman, preceded him in death, but their spirit and love undoubtedly laid the foundation for the compassionate and caring man he became.
