Craig Alvord, beloved son of Richard and Doris Carlson Alvord, passed
away on Friday, April 1, 2022 in Alexandria, Virginia. He was born in
Austin, Texas on December 14, 1965.
Growing up in Robstown, Texas, Craig attended St. John's Catholic School through the Eighth grade and graduated from Robstown High School. He
was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Craig was an avid tennis
player and competed in many tournaments in the area. Attaining the rank
of Eagle Scout was a proud achievement during his younger years. Craig
graduated with a degree in geography from Texas A&M University at
College Station. He received his Master's Degree in Environmental
Science from Southwest Texas State University. After graduation he was
employed as an Environmental Protection Specialist for the EPA in
Washington, D.C., working on protecting the oceans, wetlands and
watersheds. He retired three years ago from the EPA.
His interest in American history, especially that dealing with the Civil
War, was enhanced upon moving to the East Coast. A humanitarian, later
in life Craig volunteered at the food pantry at St. James Methodist
Church in Alexandria, Virginia. He was also a member of Toastmasters.
Craig is survived by his parents of Alexandria, Virginia; uncles Alton
(Tommye) Carlson of Hemphill, Texas, Kent (Carole) Carlson of Colorado
Springs, Colorado, and Bob (Betty) Alvord of Citrus Heights,
California. Surviving cousins are Jane (Tom) Ponder of Angleton, Texas,
Kyle Carlson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Bonnie (James) Redding of
Rocklin, California, and Barbara Zavala of Rocklin, California. Also
surviving Craig are his Godmother Beverly Denkeler Mathews of Dallas,
Texas and tennis buddy John (Carla) Krauser of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 9 at St. John
Lutheran Church in Robstown, Texas. Inurnment will follow at Robstown
Memorial Park. There will be a reception at 12:15 pm at St. John
Lutheran Fellowship Hall.
