David Wayne Wishard, was born on October 13, 1960, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was the beloved son of Edna Mae Selcer and David Lee Wishard.
On May 10, 2025, David passed away. He fought a long battle with kidney disease. He was tired. God rest his soul. He will be greatly missed. His departure has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who knew him. Yet, his memory continues to inspire and guide us, reminding us of his enduring love and the precious moments we shared with him.
David had a gentle soul and a heart full of kindness. His mischievous smile and the twinkle in his blue eyes were a reflection of his playful spirit and zest for life.
David, affectionately known as "Big Wish" during his high school years, was a proud graduate of Calallen High School in Corpus Christi, Texas. His high school years were marked by his exceptional athletic abilities, particularly in football and track. His dedication and sportsmanship were a source of pride for his school, earning him the respect and admiration of his peers and teachers alike.
David had a deep passion for the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, and camping were more than hobbies for him; they were a way of life. He was an avid hunter and served as a guide at various ranches in Texas, sharing his love for nature and the thrill of the hunt with others.
A fan of NASCAR, David's favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt Junior, #88. His biggest passion and talent lay in woodworking. He had a natural ability to create and build custom items from different types of wood, especially mesquite. His craftsmanship was a testament to his patience and attention to detail.
David also had a special bond with animals. He was a natural animal magnet, and his two beloved dogs, Annie and Buddy, were a testament to his kind and loving nature.
Among his many nieces and nephews, David was a favorite uncle. His playful nature and kind heart made him a beloved figure in their lives.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Mae Selcer Wishard, his father, David Lee Wishard, his stepmother, Barbara Wishard, his sister, Deborah Lee Wright, his brother, Kenneth Gaines, and his sister-in-law Liz Gaines, his uncles Buddy (Kay), Donald(Roxanne-deceased), Walter(Susan-deceased) Selcer, Larry Wishard(Joann), and his cousin Chris Wishard.
He is survived by his brother, James Wishard(Jackie), his sisters, Carolyn McCormick (Phil), Linda Storto (Joe), Elizabeth Rich, (Jerry), and Darla Gaines. His brothers of the heart Chuck and Jim(Shannon) King. His uncles, Jerry Selcer ( Laura Nell, deceased) and Lee Selcer (Terry, deceased) and numerous nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to his friend and driver Pete for taking care of him and driving him to his appointments and treatments. Also special thank you to the staff and nurses and doctors at Davita -Alice, Texas. Thank you to staff at Angel Bright home health services in Beeville for the compassionate care of David. Thank you to the ICU nurses and staff at CHRISTUS Spohn hospital for the extraordinary care of David during his last days.
