Dennis Glen Norris

Dennis Glen Norris, 74, of Corpus Christi, TX, passed away on August 20th, 2023 at home surrounded by family. He was born in Midland, TX, on June 24th, 1949, to Harold and Della Norris.

Dennis graduated Midland High School in Midland, TX, in 1967. He proudly served in a crash rescue unit in the US Army from 1969-1972. After his service, he attended Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX. After college, Dennis moved his young family to the Kansas City area where he worked as an estimator, and later chief estimator, at Taylor Forge Engineered Systems, Inc. for 25 years. After retiring from that position, Dennis returned to Texas and worked as a chief estimator in Houston, TX. He retired again in 2020.

Dennis had two children and five grandchildren—four boys and one girl. He reveled in his role as grandfather and shared with them his passion for boating on Table Rock Lake in the Ozarks. He proudly displayed their pictures in his office and would refer to them to his friends and co-workers in the order of their birth: Number 1, Number 2, Number 3, Number 4, and Number 5. They each referred to him as “Poppy.”

Dennis was diagnosed with advanced heart failure in 2015 and received an LVAD in 2017. He fought bravely against his disease and spent as much time with his family as possible. Although he lost his battle, friends commented that, “he fought a great fight.”

Dennis is survived by his wife, Martha Caroline Norris; his two children, Michael Norris and Amy Norris-Welter, and their spouses Melissa and Steven; his five grandchildren, Caylor, Luke, Kassidi, Alex, and Cory; a great-granddaughter named Porter, and two more great-grandchildren on the way. He is also survived by his sister, Diana and her son, Micah, and his brother, Michael, his wife Jackie, and their daughters, Leticia and Felicia.

Visitation is on August 30th, 2023, from 9-10:30 AM at Sawyer-George Funeral Home at 12497 Leopard St., Corpus Christi, TX 78410. It will be followed by a graveside service at 11:00 AM at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery at 9974 IH 37 Access Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78410.
