Dewey Keeton, Jr.

d. October 17, 2018

Dewey Bryan Keeton Jr., 84, died Wednesday, October 17, 2018. He passed away in his longtime Mathis area home surrounded by love and memories. Anyone who knew Bryan Keeton, knew he loved to ‘visit.’ He would tell stories from his youth, brag on his grandchildren and mercilessly tease strangers and dear friends. He dearly loved his family and proudly spoke of them to anyone who would stop a moment to listen. Bryan Keeton was born on a farm near Mathis to Dewey Bryan Keeton and Annetta Goodridge Keeton. He lived most of his life not far from his childhood home, farming the same land his father farmed. He graduated from Odem High School and attended college at Texas A&l in Kingsville before entering the Army. Bryan Keeton married the love of his life, Mary Ordena Selph Keeton, in 1960. He has spent the last nine years of his life without his beloved wife and is surely now comforted that he is reunited with her in Heaven. Bryan Keeton served many years as an elder at the Odem Church of Christ and was a faithful Christian to his death. He loved spending time in God’s beautiful creation. His passions included hunting, fishing and gardening. When he became “Papa,” he added devising fun activities to do with his grandchildren and the occasional prank to his list of hobbies. He was always full of love and laughter with his family. Bryan Keeton is survived by his children: Dewey Keeton and his wife Sheryl of Bulverde, Orda Keeton and his wife Peggy of Corpus Christi, Mary Mengers and her husband Thomas of Tynan, and Pam Keeton of Beeville. Bryan Keeton’s grandchildren include Katlynn Lanham and her husband Matt, Hayley Mitchell and her husband Ben, James Keeton and his wife Megan, Ben Mengers and his wife Lacey, Abbey Keeton, Kevin Keeton, Coleman Mengers and his wife Sarah, Shelby Priest and her husband Ben, Michael Keeton, Connor Keeton and MacKenzie Keeton. He had 13 great grandchildren. ln addition to his wife, Ordena, he was preceded in death by a newborn son, James Perry, and his sister Ellen. Bryan Keeton’s funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home, with his sons officiating.   He will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Odem. Papa will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Thank you, to all those who have prayed for and helped our dear father in these last few difficult years of his life.
