Obituary

Dolores Edith Eggert Hinze of Houston, previously of Robstown, passed away in Fort Bend County, Texas, on June 24, 2026, at the age of 93.

A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be conducted June 29, 2026, at St. John Lutheran Church in Robstown with Pastor Jonathan Lys officiating. Visitation and viewing will precede the service at the church, with visitation beginning at 10:30 am, and the service starting at 11:30 am. Burial will follow the service at Memorial Park Cemetery, 4607 FM 1889, Robstown, Texas 78380.

Dolores was born on March 30, 1933, in Robstown to Edgar Herman Eggert, Sr and Edith Vlasta Hajek Eggert. The third of five children, she was raised in a close-knit, loving, and lively home. Along with her mother and siblings, Dolores was musically gifted, playing trumpet, trombone, piano and organ, and lifting her voice in song. She continued to study the organ while earning her degree.

Following in the footsteps of her parents, Dolores became an educator. She graduated from Robstown High School and then earned a BS in Elementary Education from Texas College of Arts and Industries in Kingsville. She married Melvin Emil Hinze on February 14, 1953, and moved with him to the Hinze family farm. After teaching fourth grade for a year at West Oso Elementary, Dolores took a break from teaching to raise her two daughters until they were both in school. She resumed her teaching career in 1965 at Hattie Martin Elementary in Robstown and taught first and third grade for 26 years until her retirement in 1991.

Dolores is survived by her daughter Cindy Hinze, son-in-law Robert Scott, grandson Braden Sides, sister and brother-in-law Mary Louise and Rey Veselka, and nieces and nephews, Carol, Richard, Donna, Clint, Vicki, Katie, Steve, Lloyd, Barbara and Sherry.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Melvin, her daughter Gaylene Hinze, her parents, her grandparents Richard and Louise Windel Eggert and Joseph and Mary Matula Hajek, her brothers Edgar Eggert, Jr, Clinton, and Aldon, her sisters-in-law Evelyn and Valeria, her nephews Mark and Ralph, and niece Charlene.

Memorial contributions in Dolores’s honor may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, 3316 Hummingbird Lane, Robstown, Texas 78380, or to Texas Lutheran University, The Eggert Family Scholarship, 1000 West Court Street, Seguin, Texas, 78155.
