Donald Poland

Donald Ray Poland, 88, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018. He was born March 9, 1930 in Manning, Texas. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on August 5, 1948 in Lufkin, Texas and received his honorable discharge as a Sergeant (T) on June 15, 1952 at Fort Hood, Texas. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Poland was retired from the Corpus Christi Army Depot. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #1282 AF&AM, the Scottish Rite Lodge in San Antonio and River Hills Baptist Church. He was a past member of the Banquete School Board and was a past president of RVOS #105. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Frank Poland and Woodie Jo Buford Poland; his brothers, Robert Poland, Jacie Norman Poland, Kelly Poland, Jack Poland, Gene Poland and Bill Poland and his sisters, Eva Waits, Lula Vanglahn, Avis Sims, Mattie Dominey, Raby Grissett and Thelma Murray. He is survived by his wife of over 65 years , Bobbie Poland; his children, Anita (Rick) Collins, Ronald Edwards, Sherry (Roy) Walker, Kathy (Frank) Anastos, Donald (Mary) Poland and Donna (Jeff) Hudspeth; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2 P.M. until 4 P.M. Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Monday, April 2, 2018 at River Hills Baptist Church with Bro. Bill Simmons officiating. Graveside services with U. S. Army military honors will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Manning Cemetery near Lufkin, Texas where his parents and daughter are interred, with Bro Cary Modisette officiating.
