Douglas Wesley Stiles Havemann
Douglas Wesley Stiles Havemann passed away on February 21, 2026, at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 79.
Douglas was born on December 14, 1946, in Cooperstown, New York, and grew up in Orange Grove, Texas. He was drafted into the United States Army and honorably served two years as a combat infantry soldier during the Vietnam era.
Following his military service, Douglas built a long and respected career as a telecommunications technician with AT&T, where he was known among coworkers for his dedication, skill, and good humor. After retiring from AT&T, he continued working for an additional decade as a surveyor, bringing the same reliability, precision, and strong work ethic that defined his entire professional life.
Douglas was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Amparo “Amy” Havemann; his children and their spouses, Doug & Melissa Havemann, Chad & Valerie Havemann, and Raquel Havemann Birkey & Kevin Birkey; his cherished grandchildren Madison Kyla, Wesley Shane, Haylee Rachell, Jordan Shayna, Sylvyss Kanin, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Havemann and Emma (Martens) Havemann, and his sisters, Ellen Brown and Joyce Durbin.
Douglas lived a life marked by service, craftsmanship, and community involvement. He was a Past Master of Independence Masonic Lodge and remained committed to the values of fellowship and service throughout his life. In the 1980s, he actively supported youth development through his involvement with Boy Scouts. Together with his wife Amy, he helped establish a scholarship supporting students at a local elementary school, reflecting their shared commitment to helping others succeed.
A gifted craftsman, Douglas found joy in fine woodworking and knife making. Many of his creations were auctioned for charitable causes, with proceeds benefiting local organizations and Shriners Hospitals for Children — a reflection of his generous spirit and quiet dedication to giving back.
Douglas will be remembered for his steady presence, his willingness to serve others, the skill of his hands, and the kindness of his heart. His legacy lives on through the family he loved, the community he served, and the many lives touched by his generosity.
A funeral service honoring Douglas’s life will be held at Sawyer-George Funeral Chapel on March 6, 2026, at 12:00 noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
