Eladio “Lalo” Escovar, 55, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on September 22, 2026, after a long illness. To those who knew and loved him, Lalo was far more than a name or a date—he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and a steady source of kindness and laughter. His warm heart, generous spirit, and genuine care for others touched countless lives and left an enduring mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Lalo was born on March 25, 1971, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Alfredo Escovar Sr. and the late Olivia Mendoza. Seventeen years ago, he made Corpus Christi his home, where he built a life centered on family, friendship, service, and community.

At the heart of Lalo’s life was his beloved wife, Maricel Escovar, with whom he shared 16 wonderful years. He was a devoted father to Eladio “Lalo” Escovar Jr., Jesenia (James) Ytuarte, Diego (Dominique Mena) Escovar, and Mykah Villarreal, and a proud grandfather to Olivia and Vivian Ytuarte. His family was his greatest joy, and he gave them unwavering love, encouragement, and support.

Lalo also found deep purpose in his work. For 31 years, he proudly served as store manager at The Boot Jack, becoming a trusted and respected presence in the community. His dedication and genuine interest in others allowed him to form lasting connections with countless people.

That same commitment to others extended to his service as a life member of the VFW Post 3837 Auxiliary, where he valued fellowship and supported an organization devoted to the community.

Outside of work, Lalo enjoyed spending time with family and friends, saltwater fishing, barbecuing, watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys, and, somewhat ironically, cutting his grass. He especially loved sharing these pastimes with the people closest to him, turning ordinary moments into cherished memories.

A hard worker and great provider, Lalo approached life’s responsibilities with quiet determination. He never hesitated to lend a hand, offer encouragement, or show up when someone needed him. His generosity, loyalty, easy humor, and welcoming spirit made him a steady source of warmth and strength.

Lalo is survived by his loving wife, Maricel Escovar; his children, Eladio “Lalo” Escovar Jr., Jesenia (James) Ytuarte, Diego (Dominique Mena) Escovar, and Mykah Villarreal; his granddaughters, Olivia and Vivian Ytuarte; his father, Alfredo (Maria) Escovar Sr.; his siblings, Leticia (Fernando) Herrera Escovar, Alfredo (Nancy) Escovar Jr., Jacqueline (Enrique) Rico, Olivia Villalon, Ricardo (Stephanie) Escovar, Starla Escovar, Amalia Galvan, and Ana (Ruben) Contreras; his mother-in-law ("Suegra") Margarita G. Villarreal; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Martin (Candus) Villarreal and Becky (Michael) Maddix; numerous nieces and nephews and countless family members and friends who loved him dearly.

He also leaves behind two lifelong best friends, Jason Payne and Alberto Toriz, whose friendship remained a treasured part of his life.

Lalo’s life was defined by the people he loved, the service he gave, and the memories he created. His absence leaves a tremendous hole in the hearts of his family and friends, but his kindness, laughter, and love will continue to live on in all who knew him.

Services for Lalo will be held at Sawyer-George Funeral Home, 12497 Leopard St in Corpus Christi on Saturday, October 10, 2026, visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Holy rosary 10 a.m.
