Elwood Knetig

April 2, 1929 — October 9, 2018

Elwood Alfred Knetig, 89, returned to his heavenly home on October 9, 2018 after a short battle with illness. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. Elwood was born to the late Alvin and Anna (Klostermann) Knetig, in Robstown, Texas on April 2, 1929. He was immersed in the Christian community from an early age. He proudly served as a member of the 36th division of the National Guard for eight years and farmed for over 60 years. He also worked for the ASCS office and the National Resource Conservation Service (Soil Conservation Service) for almost 30 years until he retired in 1989. He enjoyed hunting at the family ranch in Meyersville and visiting and spending time with family and friends. He was a hard worker and a skilled carpenter who always had a project to work on. He loved watching football, the Little League World Series, and game shows. He was an active member of the St. John Lutheran Church and enjoyed serving as an usher. Elwood was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his wife of 66 years, Mona Fay (Wendel) Knetig, on April 25, 1952 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was an exceptional husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa, relative and friend and although he leaves a void in our lives, we thank God for blessing us with him for so many years. Family members left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mona Fay; his children, Robert (Chris) Knetig of Robstown, Texas, Esther (Mark) Edwards of Midlothian, Texas and Stephen (Kim) Knetig of Austin, Texas; his grandchildren, Tiffeny (Anthony) Ranly, Kyle (Ellen) Knetig, Garrett Edwards and Cameron Knetig; great grandchildren, Lane Ranly, Lathan Ranly, Kolton Knetig and Brandt Knetig; his sister, Valeria Eggert, and a large extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Friday, October 12, 2018 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 13, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Sarah Nye officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. Saturday at Seaside Memorial Park Cemetery. Pall Bearers include Garrett Edwards, John Freeman, Ronnie Klostermann, Weldon Guettler, Cameron Knetig, Ellen Knetig, Kyle Knetig, Anthony Ranly, Tiffeny Ranly and Randy Wendel. Honorary Pall Bearers include Kenneth Emshoff, Albert Hornung, Don Kennedy, Bob Turk, Bill Wendel and Halley Boyd Wendel. The family would like to thank Del Cielo Hospice and Palliative Care for the support and guidance. Erica, Crystal, Nora, Rachel, Claudia, Cindy and Steven. Your kindness and grace was greatly appreciated and will not be forgotten. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be given to St. John Lutheran Church of Robstown.
