Corpus Christi

Emma Ruth Townsend, 87, of Corpus Christi, Texas was born on December 28, 1935 to Solon and Nellie Barnes in Runge, Texas. She passed away Friday, November 10, 2023. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Solon Jasper and Nellie Lee Barnes; and brother, Charles Solon Barnes.

She is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Betty) Townsend; her daughter, Lori (Scott) Plant; several grandchildren; multiple great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; and cousin, Gordon (Melissa) Russell.

She was a charter member of Morgan Avenue Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught children Sunday School for many years. She also helped with VBS and monthly church dinners cooking down in the church fellowship hall. Many years ago, she became a lifelong member of Travis Baptist Church.

She was famous for her homemade pies and cakes. She was a sports fan and loved to watch the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns, San Antonio Spurs, and the Houston Astros. During football games, if her team would score a touchdown, she would always do her touchdown dance.

After spending time with Emma Ruth, when they were leaving, they would always say, “See ya’ later alligator.” And she always followed with, “After while, crocodile!”

The family would like to give special thanks to our three little angels, Rome Rosalez, Becky Garcia, and Myrna Hunter for their excellent care and love they gave to Emma Ruth Townsend. You were a special part of her life and she truly loved you all.
