Flora Jean (Conger) Atkinson, Robstown, TX

Flora Jean Atkinson passed away on July 18, 2026, at the age of 95.

She was born in San Antonio, Texas on July 1, 1931, to Albert E. and Anna Belle (Jalufka) Conger. She lived in Kenedy and San Antonio, Texas before moving to Robstown. She married William Ross Atkinson Jr on October 20, 1951 in San Antonio, Texas. She was a member of River Hills Baptist Church. She was a 50-year-old member and Past Matron of Robstown Chapter #540, Order of Eastern Star and a member of Daughters of the Nile.

Jean graduated from high school at the age of 14 and graduated from a 2-year Business School at age of 17.

Jean worked at Lyons Oil Company of San Antonio and General Telephone Company before joining Robstown ISD as the Cafeteria Director of 7schools. She retired from Robstown ISD in 1991.

One fun fact about Jean was that she was an avid saltwater and freshwater fisherman. She particularly liked wade fishing in the land cut at the cabin. She has nice trophies to prove it. She loved the peace and sounds of the ocean at the Land Cut Hilton Cabin with her family and friends. She loved hosting large fish fry for family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband Ross Atkinson. Also, her sisters Dorothy Hensley, Anne Jones, Shirley Apodaca, Penny Wimberly and brother Albert Conger.

She is survived by her 2 children Tom (Candy) and Grace (Mike) Buchanan. Grandchildren include Lacey (Aaron) Martinez, John Atkinson, Bree Millard, Megan (Dane) Murphy and Hunter Haberzettle. She was also blessed with 8 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Michael Lohan, Christian Millard, Mathew Millard, Hunter Haberzettle, Aaron Martinez and John Atkinson. Honorary Pallbearer will be Kaylee Davis and Mike Buchanan.
