Gina Marie Castro, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 77. Born on October 5, 1948, in Lubbock, Texas, Gina’s life was filled with warmth, resilience, and boundless love for her family.

Gina was deeply cherished by those who knew her. She was the proud mother to Betty Ann Vargas, grandmother to Rudy Cantu Jr. (Elizabeth), Robby Lee Cantu, and William Billy the Kid Martinez, and her guidance and affection shaped the lives of her grandchildren in countless ways. The legacy of her kindness and unwavering support continues in her great-grandchildren: Faith Elizabeth Cantu, Andrew Cantu, Samantha Cantu, Vivian Cantu, Scarlet Grace Aleman, Emma Lee Cantu, and Coraline Cantu. They carry forward her strength and compassion, a testament to her enduring influence.

Gina’s journey was also marked by remembrance for her family members who preceded her in death. She is now reunited with her father, Jesus Castro, her mother, Petra DeLeon, as well as her siblings Jesus Castro Jr., Celestino Castro, Francisco Castro, Ismael Castro, and Isabell Castro Herrera. Their memories remained close to Gina’s heart throughout her life.

Family and friends are invited to honor Gina’s life and memory at the visitation, which will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Sawyer-George Funeral Home, 12497 Leopard St, Corpus Christi, TX 78410. The funeral service will follow at the same location from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Gina will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery, 4607 FM1889, Robstown, TX 78380, with burial services beginning at 2:30 pm.
