Herman Brown Corpus Christi – Herman ‘Bubba’ Brown, age 94, was called home to our Lord on Sunday, January 9, 2022. He was born July 29, 1927 in Clark County, Arkansas to Battieve Mitchell and Joe Floyd Brown. He was raised and spent his early years in Delight, Arkansas. There he met and fell in love with Peggy Jean McCain. They married on February 12, 1949 in San Antonio, Texas, and shortly thereafter they moved to Brownsville, Texas, where he began his career in oil refinery industry. Eventually settling in Corpus Christi, Texas, they together raised three wonderful children, Christina, Lisa, and Daryl.
Herman retired from Koch Refining Company in 1987 after 30 years of service. He, also, proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and was a longtime member of the local VFW Post 3837 in Annaville.
A people person, Herman loved socializing and never met a stranger. You could find him like clockwork at the local Whataburger chatting with his buddies over a cup of coffee, and he was always ready for Panjo’s pizza and a cold one.
An avid fisherman, Herman loved to spend time down at his fish camp at the land cut near the Laguna Madre. His other favorite activities included playing golf, dominoes and bridge, hunting, bowling, tending to his garden and fruit trees, and feeding the squirrels. Herman especially enjoyed watching his grandkids sporting events and activities.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and his wife of 72 years, Peggy.
Herman is survived by his three children, Iris Christina Hester, Lisa Ann Smith (Charles), and Daryl Herman Brown (Christine); five grandchildren, Dacia Smith Alford (Brent), Tamara Smith Wilson (Joey), Kaley Smith, Jace Smith (Jessica), Brenna Smith Key (Brandon); and 9 great-grandchildren, Parker, Preston, and Presley Alford, Hallie and Hayden Wilson, Reese and Kyle Smith, and Carson and Conrad Key. A visitation will be held from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at the Sawyer-George Funeral Home in Calallen. The burial will follow the same day at 1:30 pm at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi.
