Doyle Lambert

June 3, 1934 — April 15, 2025

Corpus Christi

Herman Doyle Lambert, age 90 of Round Rock TX, passed away on April 15th, 2025. He was born in Corpus Christi Tx on June 3rd, 1934, to Walter and Nettie Lambert. He attended Mathis high school in Mathis Tx where he excelled in all three sports of basketball, baseball, and football. Football was his favorite sport all his life. He was all district running back his sophomore, junior, and senior years. He really enjoyed playing football with his brothers Charlie and Curtis. He always said his baby brother Curtis, who was two years behind him, was the toughest of the five brothers. He worked for the state of Texas for 25 years with the Railroad Commission as an oil field regulations officer.

Pops, as he was so lovingly called by his grandchildren, loved God, his family, and his church. Those were his passions. He enjoyed the Dallas Cowboys, and the Texas Longhorns. Watching the Cowboys with him back in the 70's was a lot of fun. Man, he would really get into the game. Pops really enjoyed his grandchildren, and they really enjoyed him. He would always be at the grandkid's games cheering them on. I remember pops telling me he didn't like going to church because they are going to ask for money. I remember the day pops made a profession of faith. It was a Sunday morning in 1970 at Central Baptist Church in Robstown Tx. What a transformation. For the last 55 years pops served God and the body of Christ faithfully. His biggest attribute, loving people. Always seeing the good in people. He taught Sunday school faithfully for many years. He taught the children's group with Bobbie Poland and then with Marie Pyle. After the passing of his first wife Tina, Marie would later become his wife. Pops didn't have a whole lot of patience with children when they were young. Pops didn't do hardly any of the actual teaching, Bobbie and Marie did most of the teaching, but Pops would quote "keep the kids in line" end quote. He would always be heard saying "y'all behave, get quiet, pay attention". Pops was legendary with his methods on how he would get the kids to behave, get quiet, and pay attention,". Methods only Doyle could get away with. He would always say on Saturday afternoons, "I gotta get home and call my Sunday School kids. Every Saturday evening, he would call his Sunday School kids and encourage them to come to Sunday School and to church. He would talk to them, ask them how they were doing, encourage them to come because they were really needed and wanted. As the kids grew and matured, he really enjoyed getting to know them. He was so proud of all of them, watching them grow into Godly young men and women. Doyle was one of a kind. Just the way he talked to people said a lot about the kind of man he was. There are so many stories of how Doyle touched people's lives with kindness and gentleness. We love you pops, we'll miss you, you have shown us and taught us what it looks like to love and care for people of all walks of life. You've taught us that putting others' needs before your own is the path to joy and peace. Rest well Doyle Lambert, we'll see you in the morning. Al glory to Christ!
