Irma Torres

Irma Torres Garza, 74, of Corpus Christi, Texas; a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend passed away on January 22, 2024. 

She was born in Villa de Juarez Nuevo Leon on December 9, 1949. 

She met her husband, Juan Torres-Hinojosa, in 1961. They married in August 1966 and began their lives together raising their family in Brownsville, Texas. In 1991, they relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas, where she devoted her life to her family and prioritized adult education in English as a second language. She went onto accomplish her citizenship in December 2008. 

She was a member of New Life Baptist Church. She had numerous brothers and sisters in Christ, whom she cherished very much. Her unwavering faith and strong relationship with God illuminated her life. Irma had a passion for cooking, baking, gardening, traveling, exercise, and music.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gonzalo Garza; her mother, Consuelo Gonzalez; and her son, Jorge Luis Torres, Sr. 

She is survived by her husband, Juan Humberto; her son, Juan Antonio (Alejandra); daughter, Martha Patricia; son, Cesar Humberto (Michelle); numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren; brother Rogelio (Martha); sisters, San Juana, Rosalva, Martha (Luis), Imelda (Gerardo); brothers Pedro (Guadalupe), Roberto (Delfina), Sergio (Blanca)and Miguel Angel (Susana).

Irma's kindness, care, and generosity touched the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion.

Visitation will be on Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 9am-12pm at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will begin at 12pm. Graveside will be at Memorial Park.
