James I. Rayer, 83, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on August 19, 2026. He was born in Louisiana on May 1, 1943.

James enjoyed animals and spent much of his working life in trucking and the oil field.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Barnes Rayer, and three of her children, Bob, Barbara, and David.

He is survived by his children, Jim Rayer (Faye) and Betsy Barnes Hickman (Kenny); 12 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

Services have been entrusted to Sawyer-George Funeral Home.
