James Doyle Mccain

March 26, 1928 — May 5, 2021

Robstown

It is with great sadness that on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, James Doyle McCain, of Corpus Christi Texas, went to be with our Lord and Savior at 93 years young.

Born to CB and Muriel Lemley McCain in Rosebud, Texas on March 26, 1928. Doyle spent his younger years in Oakville, TX before moving to Corpus Christi. He entered Basic training for the United States Army in Little Rock, Arkansas, attended Boot Camp in Killeen, TX then was transferred to Louisville, KY where he served LT. Bumgardner as his personal driver until 1946. After his service Doyle returned to Corpus Christi and worked for the Texas Highway Department while learning his trade as a plumber.

Doyle lived and worked in and around Corpus Christi area for most of his life. In 1952 while acquiring his Master’s Plumbing license he opened the Doyle McCain Plumbing office. Doyle worked as a plumber for over 65 years, and I would venture to say he has worked on every street in Corpus Christi over the last 65 years.

Doyle was a member of Corpus Christi Clippers, supporter of the Calallen Wildcats, and an avid horseracing enthusiast. Over the years he had many horses like Mr. Gerb, Early Return, Jason’s Creek, Rapid OH, Boogie Easy, Darlins Boy (won 1982 Columbus Derby), and Last Man Standing (won 2014 Florida Quarter Horse Stallion Derby). Doyle’s love for the races took him all over, from New Mexico to Oklahoma & across the Louisiana borders, his heart and soul were in the races!

Doyle was preceded in death by brothers Gladwell Eugene McCain, Robert Dalton McCain, Elvis Earl McCain and sisters, Janet McCain Alston, Bobbye Dean McCain Parker, Melva McCain Groom and Geneva Joyce McCain Thompson. He is survived by one brother Gerald Dwain McCain.

He was married to his first wife Bertie Lee Bastian McCain for 22 years and had 2 children together, James Lee McCain (wife Kandee McCain) and Carol Jean McCain Earwood (preceded in death by husband Raymond Earwood). In 1974 he married Jeannine Lavern Bell McCain and adopted 2 beautiful children, Robert Joshua McCain and Shawn Lee McCain (wife Catherine McCain). Doyle is the proud grandfather of many grandchildren: James Lucas and wife Heidi McCain, Jace Kameron and wife Sarah McCain, Jadee Koy and husband Patrick Schuler, Katie Joy and husband Corey Garcia, Angela Jene Earwood, Kandice Tene Earwood, Joshua Doyle McCain, Matthew Paul McCain, Cameron James McCain, Kensey Kelly McCain, Ella Grace McCain, Lila Ann McCain, Callyn Lee McCain, and great grandchildren: Ava, Iris, Erin, Anetka, Micah, Levi, Charlize, Amaya, Sonora, Phoenix, Kora, Taven, Mason, Karsyn, Beaux, Beckett, Ryann, and Charlie. He is also survived by several loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
