Joan Hofer

April 22, 1938 — April 30, 2026

Joan Marie Hofer, 88, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, at her home in Odem, Texas.

Born in Wichita Falls, Texas, Joan was the second of five children. She spent her childhood and most of her life in Corpus Christi, where she built deep roots and lasting friendships. She graduated from Tuloso-Midway High School, becoming the first of three generations in her family to do so. She later earned her associate degree from Del Mar College, reflecting her lifelong commitment to learning and personal growth.

Joan’s life was defined by hard work, creativity, and service to her community. Over the years, she held many roles—bank teller, fabric store manager, administrative assistant—and eventually fulfilled a dream by opening her own fabric store. Her love for sewing and quilting flourished, and she became an active member of the Sew Gulls Quilting Group. Her passion for homemaking and youth development led to decades of volunteer service with the Nueces County Junior Livestock Show Homemaking Division, where she proudly served until her passing.

Sports were another constant in Joan’s life. She lettered in varsity athletics, worked as a PE coach at Clarkwood Elementary, and coached her own children in softball. She was an enthusiastic fan of the San Antonio Spurs, March Madness, tennis championships, golf majors, and—most importantly—any sporting event involving her children or grandchildren. Oil Belt Little League held a special place in her heart, and she and her husband actively fundraised for the designation of the June Debra Hofer Memorial Softball Field.

Joan will be remembered for her devotion to her community, her creative spirit, and her unwavering love for her family, which she considered her greatest blessing. While her family will miss her deeply, they take comfort in knowing she is reunited with the many loved ones who went before her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, J.D., whom she married on June 23, 1956—a marriage marked by enduring love and partnership. She was also preceded in death by her cherished daughter, June, and her siblings Jackie and Gayle.

Joan is lovingly survived by her son, J.D. Jr.(Janel); her daughters, Janet (Chad) and Jennifer (Jimmy); and her treasured grandchildren, Kelsey, Keeley, Korey, Camden, and Connor, who brought her immense pride and joy. She is also survived by her siblings, Jerry and Sue.

Her legacy of love, creativity, and service will continue to live on in the many lives she touched.

“It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness”

Charles Spurgeon
