Joe Nowell

Joe Lynn Nowell of Corpus Christi, Texas, beloved husband, father and grandfather, U.S. Navy veteran, and retired Corpus Christi police officer, died on March 27, 2018 after a courageous fight with cancer. He was 73. Joe proudly served his country in the US Navy where he was assigned to the United States Marines, 3rd Medical Battalion, Phu Bai, Vietnam. After discharge from the navy, he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Texas A & I University in Kingsville, Texas. He was a dedicated police officer, serving in patrol, communications, robbery and homicide, mini motors, walking patrol, and property. He retired from active duty with the Corpus Christi Police Department as a Sergeant after thirty years. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Herman E. and Brantley Mundy Nowell and his brother Jimmie Paul Nowell. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Connie Wright Nowell; his son and daughter-in-law, Brian Paul and Caroline Stacy Nowell; two wonderful grandsons, William Paul and Joseph Ryan Nowell and his extended family. He will be missed in the neighborhood as he was a one-man neighborhood watch. A celebration of life will be at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 12:00 P.M. until 1:30 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will be conducted on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Grace United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 14521 Northwest Blvd., Corpus Christi, Texas 78410.
