Joyce Hoya

Joyce Annette Hoya at the age of 84 peacefully went to be with our Lord and Savior on February 25 2023. She was born on March 2, 1938 in Houston, Tx.  Joyce attended Corpus Christi High School in the 50’s.  She soon met the love of her life, Kenneth Ray Hoya and they were married on December 21, 1954 in Dallas, Tx. Before too long they they were blessed with their first of 3 beautiful children.  Joyce had a love for shoes which only grew when she worked for Bill’s Shoe Box.  She thoroughly enjoyed helping her customers find the perfect pair of shoes, and she did this for many years.  She truly loved the joy that children bring so much that when she was no longer working outside of the home, she started a small in home day care.  Joyce had a big heart and if you truly knew her, you loved her.  She really loved gardening with Ken, cooking meals, time at the hunting lease with family, camping and swimming at the lake, baking her most cherished pies, playing bridge with friends but mostly she loved making memories with her family.  She was most definitely known for doing things her way, which became Nanny’s way. She is preceded in death by her parents Joy C and Mary Elsie Hartsfield.  Her beloved husband of 61 years Kenneth Ray Hoya, sister Judy Robert and precious Grandson Christopher Michael Knief.  She is survived by her Daughter Connie (Dale) Toomes, son Ray (Simone) Hoya, daughter Desiree (Donnie) Ellis, grandchildren Stephanie (Amanda), Jennifer (Matt), Beau, and Austin . Great Grandkids Chance, Collin, and Tyler.
Joyce was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her and will be deeply missed.

The visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home from 4:00PM-8:00PM, with the funeral service to be held on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home at 2:00PM. The graveside service will be held on the following Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery at 11:00AM.
