Lois Elizabeth Brown

March 14, 1929 — January 26, 2024

Corpus Christi

Lois Elizabeth Powell Brown, 94, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2024 at The Villa South Assisted Living Community, her loving home for the past seven years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ivey Joseph and Gladys Powell of Rocky Mount, NC, along with her five brothers and two sisters. Lois was also preceded in death by her husband Marvin Thomas Brown, her son Marvin Thomas ‘Tommy’ Brown II and her grandson Stefen Allen Brown.

She is survived by her children, Bruce Brown (Judy) and Diane Maxwell (Billy); her grandchildren, Joseph Brown, Brittany Brown, James Brown, Taylor Ashurst, Lauren Ashurst; great-granddaughter Atzi Silva-Ashurst; and daughter-in law Sharon Brown.

Lois was born in Rocky Mount, NC on March 14, 1929 to a large farming family. She married Marvin on June 8, 1952.

As a U.S. Army family for 18 years, they were stationed in various locations in the U.S. and Central America. Lois “held down the fort” several times while Marvin was away on duty. Lois spent her life placing her family’s needs before her own, in many ways. She provided a secure and loving home wherever they lived. In 1970, Lois and Marvin made Corpus Christi their family’s final stop and permanent home.

Marvin passed away in December 1980 after a sudden illness. Lois decided to re-enter the workforce as a retail clothing sales person, where she enjoyed helping others find just what they needed.

Music was a joy and comfort to Lois her entire life. She especially loved to sing songs from the pre-60’s era, like Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Dean Martin and many others.

Lois touched the hearts of all who knew her through her kindness, love and compassion.

She was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother and will be missed immeasurably.

Graveside services will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with Marvin.

Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at 2pm, at Committal Shelter #1.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in memory of Lois to their favorite charity or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
