Martha Mahany

September 24, 1957 — April 6, 2010

Mahany Calallen, Texas Martha Frances West Mahany passed away on April 6, 2010, after a long battle with breast cancer. Martha was born to Fran and Reggie West on September 24, 1957, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana (and made sure to get to Texas as quickly as she could). She graduated from Samuel Clemens High School in 1975 and received her teaching degree from Southwest Texas State University in 1978 and her Masters in Administration from Texas A&I in 1986. She went on to teach for LaVernia ISD, East Central ISD, Judson ISD, and later made her home in Calallen ISD where she retired in January after 21 years of service. Martha was an active participant in her community and was an avid member of the Aggie Mom's Club and the Calallen Touchdown Booster Club. She reveled in every moment she was able to attend football games, pep rallies and football practices. Martha prided herself in being a loving wife and mother and a great friend to all who crossed her path. She will forever be remembered as "Momma Martha" to many and an amazing woman to all who knew her. On May 22, 1977, Martha married Kevin James Mahany, her sweetheart and the love of her life. Martha and Kevin spent the next 32 years enjoying their life together, raising their four children and supporting her beloved Calallen Wildcats. Martha's love lives on in her husband, Kevin James Mahany of Calallen, Texas; her children, Melissa Frances Mahany Budd (Daniel) of Milan, Michigan, Lindsey Ryan Mahany, Kevin Wade Mahany and Steven Patrick Mahany all of Calallen, Texas; her mother, Fran West; her brothers, Reginald West III (Mary Lou), Jeff West (Michelle), and Wade West (friend, Kenya) and her "baby" sister, Wendy West King (friend, Buck), her mother-in-law, Kumi "Mitzi" Mahany all of San Antonio, Texas; her brothers-in-law, Roy Mahany (friend, Sheila) of Alto, Michigan, Steve Mahany (Natalie) of Dripping Springs, Texas and sister-in-law, Lisa Mahany Castellanos of San Antonio, Texas. Martha was a very proud aunt of seventeen nieces and nephews and leaves behind countless extended family and friends, including her treasured CWPA. Her father, Reggie West and father-in-law, James R. Mahany were awaiting her arrival in Heaven with open arms. Her services will begin on Friday, April 9, 2010, with a visitation at Sawyer-George Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Grace United Methodist Church, 11222 Leopard Street, Corpus Christ, Texas 78410 with Rev. John Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to: Coastal Bend Community Foundation - Martha Mahany Memorial Athletic Scholarship Fund, 600 Leopard Street, Ste. 1716, Corpus Christi, Texas 78401.
