Mary Gates

Mary Leo Gates, 94, of Corpus Christi, Texas went to be with the Lord on March 14, 2011. She was born July 15, 1916 in the Sunshine area of Corpus Christi, Texas to Simeon and Maude Mae Brunson Roper. Mrs. Gates graduated from Corpus Christi High School, was a bookkeeper for her husband in his real estate business, and was a charter member of Annaville Baptist Church where she was an Awana leader for 16 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Gates, her daughter, Mary Fayne Gardner, her daughter-in-law, Frances Gates, two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her son, Larry Gates of Mobile, Alabama; her daughter, Randy Sue Wood and her husband Courtney of Houston, Texas; her son-in-law, Don Gardner of Bryan, Texas; seven grandchildren, Shannon Wagoner, Travis Gates, Gates Gardner, Jill Gardner, Jayne Wood, Symmie Dark and Meredith Trammell; 13 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 10 A.M. until 8 P.M. with the family present from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. Friday, March 18, 2011 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Annaville Baptist Church with Brother Robert Simmons and Brother Jess Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make contributions to Refuge of Hope at Annaville Baptist Church.
