Mary Whitworth

June 6, 1920 — June 22, 2018

Mary Jyeton Whitworth, 98, passed away Friday, June 22, 2018, at her personal care home in Missouri City, Texas. She was born June 6, 1920, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Charley Vernon Hoskins and Lessie Marie Boleman Hoskins. She lived in the Corpus Christi area until moving to Sugar Land, in 2003, to live with her daughter and son-in-law.   Jyeton was married to Abraham Oliver Whitworth from July 3, 1939, until his death on August 20, 2001. She is survived by one of her ten siblings, Callie Inez Kovack, of Massilon, Ohio; by her daughters, Harriet (John) Garland of Sugar Land, Texas, and Debrah (Trent) Cole of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; three granddaughters, Beverly Garland of Cedar Creek, Texas; Melinda Garland (David) Pomerinke, of Walla Walla, Washington; and Darla Magee, of Kernersville, North Carolina; two great-grandsons, Douglas (Shelby) Pomerinke, of Milton, Washington, and John David Pomerinke; her niece, Cathey Kelley, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; and an additional 17 nieces and nephews, all dear to her.   Jyeton and Abe were very involved members of Grace United Methodist Church, and she served in many capacities in the United Methodist Women. She was a good planner and organizer and often found herself in charge of large group meals. Her organizational skills became very evident when she and Abe developed a strong and profitable Shaklee business and served in leadership positions for over 30 years. Their Shaklee business provided opportunities for travel and many lasting friendships.   The funeral service will be conducted on Friday, June 29, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., in the chapel at Sawyer-George Funeral Home, 12497 Leopard Street, Corpus Christi, Texas 78410. Burial will follow at Robstown Memorial Park Cemetery.   Memorial donations may be made to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief), to any of the contribution options (www.umcor.org).
