Melvin Ray Hennesay

Melvin R. “Sonny” Hennesay, (93), of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on November 4, 2025, with his family by his side.

Son of Lois Ray Hennesay and Florence L. Hennesay, he was born on September 3, 1932, in Padre Island, Texas. He graduated from Tuloso-Midway High School in 1950, where he was one of twelve graduating seniors and on the varsity football team. Sonny began his career in the oilfield. He had an apprenticeship for the local plumbing and pipe fitting union, and he received his 70-year pin in 2022. He worked for Berry Construction for many years.

Sonny was an avid outdoorsman who had saltwater in his veins. He loved hunting, fishing, building, and doing anything to keep him busy as long as it was outside. He could do almost anything.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Florence L. Hennesay, father, Lois R. Hennesay, sister, Bernice Hubbard, brother, Floyd Doyle Hennesay, brother-in-law, Dan Germany, and son-in-law, Danny Alexander.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jeanette Hennesay; daughter, Linda K. Hennesay Alexander; daughter, Sherry Gayle Hennesay Hillin, brother, Glen Hennesay (Anita); and sister, Edith Germany; granddaughter, Crystal Weber (Justin); grandson, Matt Hillin (Jenny), granddaughter, Shawna Johnson (Matt); grandson, Bryce Alexander (Jamie); and grandson Jared Alexander (Carrie); 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
