Michael Creel

February 3, 1943 — September 18, 2019

Michael Leroy Creel was called home on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at the age of 76 after a short, hard fought battle with cancer. Mike was born February 3, 1943 in Elgin, Texas to J. Leroy and Fannie Mills Creel. He spent his childhood playing outdoors, hunting, fishing and causing trouble. As a young adult, Mike enjoyed drag racing Harley Davidsons and other motorcycles, fishing, piloting airplanes, and handling anything with a motor. During his professional carrier, Mike traveled all over Texas as a successful salesman, working his way up to a District/Regional Manager position with Cain's Coffee Company until he finally settled with his family in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1988. There, he not only joined the Coastal Bend Restaurant Association and the Greater Corpus Christi Hospitality Association, of which he was the treasurer for both, he also built life long relationships with his customers over cups of coffee. In 2002, he and his daughter Brandi, opened their own gift store, Today Tomorrow Always Engraving & Gifts where he spent much of his time. Mike semi-retired in 2008 and became an ambassador for Heartland Payment Systems, helping local businesses with credit card processing until his death. Mike was known for his straight forward honesty, laid back charm, and piercing blue eyes. He never met a stranger and loved working in customer service, watching football and racing of any kind, telling the best stories and worst jokes, but spending time with his family and friends was his favorite thing of all. He goes home to be reunited with his parents and step brother. Left to cherish their memories of him are his sons, Michael Leroy Creel, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, Robert Thomas Creel of Kyle, Texas, and daughter Brandi Michelle Steeb and husband Joseph of Corpus Christi, Texas, grandchildren Brittany, Ian, and Jemma Skye, sister Sallie Gant and husband Gary, brother Judd Scott, stepsisters Deborah "Cricket" Morrison and Ann Younger, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday, September 23, 2019 at 9:00am followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00am at Sawyer-George Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to cover funeral and final expenses.
