Michael Gregg Truesdale passed away on May 8, 2026, at the age of 74, after a year-long battle with severe dementia.
Gregg was born on May 5, 1952, in Robstown to Mildred Wright and Myron Charles “M.C.” Truesdale. He attended St. John’s Catholic School and went on to proudly serve in the Texas Army National Guard.
He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Bockholt, and together they shared 55 years of marriage. They made their home in the Violet community, where Gregg farmed alongside his father-in-law and spent most of his life working as a farmer and rancher. He also served as Plant Supervisor at Wright Materials from 1994 until his retirement in 2025.
Gregg dedicated much of his life to his community through numerous leadership and board roles. He was involved with Nueces Electric Cooperative, the Board of Directors of W.T. Mining, where he also held the position of President, and the Board of Directors of the Violet Water Supply Corporation. He was active with the Buc Days Rodeo Committee and held many roles with the Nueces County Junior Livestock Show, including Horse Show Superintendent, Show and Sale Board member, Trustee of the Robstown Show Barn, and numerous committee positions. He was also President of the Coastal Bend Catholic Life Branch.
Gregg loved horses, rodeo, ranching and hunting, and valued the simple life of hard work and wide-open spaces.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; his children, Dwayne Truesdale and Heather Schomburg; and his son-in-law, Matt Schomburg.
He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dwayne’s family includes Jake Truesdale and Antonia Pinon and their children, Jojo and Adalynn; Jacob and Megan Manteufel and their children, Abigail, Melody, and August; and Nicole Edwards and her son, Michael. Heather and Matt Schomburg’s family includes their four sons: Tyler, Maverick, Miller, and Riggs.
He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Violet Helpert and Mark Truesdale and his wife, Brenda, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Gregg will be remembered for his strong work ethic and his love for the land and cowboy way of life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held on May 20, 2026, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Violet. Viewing will be from 9:00–10:00 a.m., followed by the Rosary at 10:30 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Gregg’s honor to a dementia research organization dedicated finding a cure for those affected by dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Heritage at Eldridge Parkway in Houston for the compassionate care and kindness they showed Gregg over the last several months.
