Raymond John Sykora, 71, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025, in Victoria, Texas. Born in 1954, in Corpus Christi, Raymond lived a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work.
Raymond was the beloved son of Raymond Ignac and Martha (Kurtz) Sykora. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Sandra (LeMaire) Sykora; and his second wife, Mary Beth (Schonhoeft) Sykora. He is lovingly remembered by his sister Annette (Dean) Carpenter and brother Randolph “Randy” (Jeraldine) Sykora. His legacy continues through his nephews Paul, Ryan, Joel, and David Carpenter; niece Colette Bulera; grandnephews Logan, Austin, and Nicholas Carpenter; step-grandnephew Noah Holten; grandnieces Brittany, Claire, Georgia, Naomi and Kora Carpenter, and Hannah and Molly Bulera; stepdaughter Judy (Alvaro) Villalon; and step-grandchildren Christina, Ryan (Bruna), and Kyle Villalon.
Raymond had a deep love for God and lived a life that reflected his values. He never missed a family event and cherished time spent with his siblings and their families. Whether it was working side-by-side on construction projects or simply enjoying each other’s company at gatherings filled with laughter and good food, Raymond’s presence was a constant source of strength and joy.
A skilled craftsman, Raymond enjoyed building, fixing, and creating, including building his own home—a testament to his dedication and talent. His culinary talents were equally admired, especially his banana pudding, lemon meringue pie, smoked chicken, and homemade smoked sausage.
Raymond was also a proud rancher and avid hunter who loved the land he owned and cared for. His dog Sally was always by his side as he tended to the ranch or enjoyed quiet moments outdoors. He also loved a polka dance with good music and good friends.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Hospice of South Texas Dornburg Center of Compassion for their compassionate care during Raymond’s final days. Special gratitude is also extended to the caregivers and friends who supported him with kindness.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Raymond’s honor to the Hospice of South Texas Dornburg Center of Compassion, 1005 Mallette Drive, Victoria, TX 77904.
