Robert “Red”/” Champ” Champion of Orange Grove, TX passed away on Friday, Feb. 19, 2021. He was 59 years old. Robert was born to parents Roy Lee and Mary Pauline (Wilkerson) Champion on August 20, 1961 in Evansville, Indiana. He grew up in the Annaville area and attended Tuloso-Midway High School. He joined the Army and went on to spend most of his life working as a Crane Operator for various companies for a number of years. He was a Diesel Mechanic and later a Truck Driver. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars, motorcycles, and anything else that had an engine. He adored his pit bulls Brandy, Daisy, and Bella, and found joy in time spent with his family. He will be greatly missed.
Robert’s survivors include his daughters, Laura (Billy) Denham of Lake City, TX., Sara Champion of Lexington, KY., and Emily Champion of McAllen, TX.; brother, Roy (Dana) Champion of Monticello, GA.; and sisters, Phyllis (Thomas) Hoeber of Corpus Christi, TX., and Paula (Dion) Ewers of Orange Grove, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents.
A Gathering for Robert will be held Saturday (2/27) from 2-4 pm at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.
